The situation at WR was insufficient enough to qualify as a need.

Some stats that show why I believe it was a luxury (although still a good trade).

6th completion %
1st Yards per attempt
5th Rate
3rd 1st down %
Tied 1st 20+ yards
1st 40+ yards
Fewest Sacks
Least yards lost to sacks

Everyone can have their opinion but this is why I have mine. To me a team that leads the league in deep balls doesn’t NEED another deep threat but I’m certainly not going to turn it down. Should be fun to watch.

Good result doesn't equal good process. These stats are obviously all JSN, and I don't consider it wisdom for the offense to run through one guy, even if it's been working.

You could also assume some contribution from Kupp helping take pressure off JSN. Kupp is now out, and the Commanders putrid defense wasn't exactly a stiff test of how well the offense will perform long-term without him. And just because he's not on IR yet doesn't mean he won't be.

Additionally, the run game's struggles have come in part due to facing the 2nd-most stacked boxes in the league, so defenses obviously haven't regarded JSN as sufficient deterrent for that. They'll have to now.

Then finally you could ask - "need" for what? For a mediocre playoff run? Or do you want the team to win this year since it obviously appears more reachable than some of us anticipated? If Darnold's looking like a QBOTF, make him one. Give him the weapons. If you're still treating him as the bridge to be replaced by the first high draft pick we can find, then sure, Rashid was a luxury.

But we do agree that it will be fun to watch.

^^^^ Never thought I'd see the day when I'd find myself agreeing with Montanahawk on anything. ('cause he hit the nail right on the head here)

We truly live in interesting times.

But yeah... Tory having Groin issues (and now not practicing yesterday) makes the Shaheed signing all the more important and far less of a so-called "Luxury".

Both teams def. have their share of injuries.
All a matter of opinion, but WR absolutely was a need, imo. Esp. with injuries popping up. Also, they've made no secret that they want this guy going forward. Adding to a perceived strength isn't a bad thing at all. Shoot, our pass rush has been damn good. If they would have added to it, hell yes.

Calling it now, the need for Rasheed will become a thing.

He gets a 40 plus yard reception or return on Sunday. Book it.

I believe that Cody White has maxed out his elevations from PS. I think a player is allowed 3 elevations max before they must be added to active roster. So adding Shaheed counters that as there isn't a huge need to elevate White or add him to the roster.

I mentioned (in a different thread I think) that with 2 fast deep threats (JSN and Rasheed) running one deep and one intermediate route, and our many short/crossing route passcatchers running those, that this should unload the box and allow the running game to take off. There are only so many people on D to cover everyone. So, it was absolutely required for the running game to get another WR. I think some of you are playing checkers while JS/MM are playing chess.

If you're interested, the current prop bets for Rashid this week are as follows...

Number of Receptions... Over/Under 2.5 (-210/+155).

Receiving yards... Over/Under 41.5 (-111/-111).

In both cases, the money has been on the Over since they opened... driving up the odds on the number of receptions... and the number of yards on the latter.

Here and there
Nice to see Haynes out there. I still have hope for the kid.

Horton with a groin, concerning, but full parcipitation is good.
Same here regarding Haynes...He received high remarks before being drafted....hoping in translates for our team eventually to being a great pick....Horton hears a what? Groin injury...sad to hear...Bobo who I thought was invincible is sadly still out...must be something more serious than we thought...

Brutal injury report this week. No Jones, no Horton, bevy of other questionnable designations including Kupp. Urgh.

The specific case is where play 12 personnel and oppositions bring a man down into the box leaving a single high safety. You can't do that if you have JSN and Rasheed on the field.

I would def. take the over on receiving yards.

It was absolutely an area of need. Seattle is a lot like San Francisco in that the big reason our #1 is such a stats monster is the same reason that McCaffery is such a stats monster, most everything runs through these guys.

If either goes down, their team is going to struggle. Both are at risk of injury, due to overuse.

Now McCaffery is far more important to the Niners, than JSN is to us — losing him would be akin to losing BOTH Darnold and JSN, but the point remains.

We have too many eggs in the JSN basket. We would do well to protect him from overuse, and overexposure to injury.

As much as I would love to see him getting the record for receiving yards, I’d much prefer a deep run.

I don't get people wanting to hold people out for certain later games, I
want players who want to play and can go at it with little aches and pains.
This is not the NBA and "Load management" FFS.
