I'm encouraged by Fleury so far

Like the rest of you, I've been watching the clips that the Seahawks YouTube channel has been posting, and there's 2 things I've noticed that get me pounding the table for the season to start already, and that's seeing Price running routes and catching passes, and hearing Arroyo having a good TC. Those are the 2 things I was really hoping Fleury would bring to the offense.

Those are both promising. On Hard Knocks both JSN and Kupp seemed to have a really nice rapport with Darnold and building off what was already positive last season.

1. "never called plays before" is a red herring. Shanny's O-coaches were constantly providing their feedack real time on play calls. The thought process is already established...now he gets to make the decisions and execute. Not worried here at all.
2. Players already have high regard for him. That's 50%+ of the battle already won.
3. He and the O are blessed Kub's system has a lot of cross-over with Shanny's. Similar language and concepts. The systems aren't identical...Kub's is a highbred model of Shanny and his pops systems, but enough to be complimentary instead of distinctly different.
4. Love the TE focus he'll bring.

Highly optomistic at this point is what I say.

He has experience calling plays, just as a DC back a few years. So even so it is not new, just different.

Can't wait to see what he can do. I'm highly optimistic about what Fleury can do. Season can't get here soon enough.

I think Darnold welcomes the Defense stepping up 'cause "Iron sharpens Iron" (and there's no irony in this one) or whatever they say.

2) Fleury's presser was really impressive. There was a lot of coach-spesk and cliche, but it was also quite thoughtful. I was impressed just how quickly he made his point/s. It was valid. He was articulate. If he can think and react that quickly in coaching situations and game situations, he'll have a big advantage.
3)Additionally, I haven't seen or heard anything that makes me question him yet. That wasn't the case with Grubb. His early public comments were very ambiguous.

Yeah he's way more talkative than Kubiak. I like what I see so far but we'll see him in pressure situations and see if he can read a defense. 90% of the plays are pre-planned in the first half anyways. We'll see a ton of the same sets and the same blocking scheme

All national media keeps bringing up first time play caller how can they cope. Never talk about Sean Mannion in Philly. Who would you rather have calling plays.

Fleury has been part of a very good offense for a long time, an integral part of that offense. Seattle retained much of the staff and Mike leading the charge. This transition is smooth. I believe this offense will be better this year. Too much retention in players and coaches to fail.

On top of Price and Arroyo, I would add in the positive Shaheed take aways. Now that he has had an offseason to integrate into the offense, I think he will help open up the whole field even more than he did last year.

I see Fleury's hiring as an addition by addition because this will be Darnold's third offensive coordinators in three consecutive seasons, and he has flourished with the last two, both different, yet still having a positive effect on his progression; Fleury will add yet another layer to Darnold's repertoire and Darnold might just be able to help offer up some insight on plays that were successful in his last two successful seasons.

He came across as super calm as well. He spent seven years under Shanahan, while Kubiak was a bit of a journeyman with one year under Shanahan. I realize we have to wait for real game action and all that, but there is a possibility that we actually upgraded.

Well most people don't realize (I didn't either) but most of the play calling stuff is settled before the game. They have a handful of plays for each down and distance and situation and they just call from that. The hardest part and most critical part of calling plays is done before game day and he was the architect of that and had a massive role in that in SF. Obviously there is some nuance to that as defenses change, do unique things in game etc but its a smaller part of the pie than most of us realize.

The one thing that is obvious so far is he is blowing the players away and that's a good sign. I'm excited to see how he does. It may take a couple of weeks for him to settle in but I think we're going to see some good things from the offense this year.

If he has the kind of success I think we'll have, he'll start showing up on lists. He's just got that HC look and vibe. But I bet we keep him for two years minimum. He's been been smartly building up his resume over time. Ben Johnson did three years at OC before picking his job. In any event, it's my understanding that Macdonald wants to build an offensive system that survives coaches leaving. So in that sense, Fleury will add to what Kubiak started, and somebody will eventually inherit that.
