Ok, per Condotta, NFL is saying it's not a rule violation. From what I can gather, this skirts two NFL rules.

The first is the defenseless player rule, which means they can't touch Stoll's head or neck. The second is the Defensive Holding penalty, which specifies you can't 'pull-and-shoot', but because this involved a push DOWN and not actually pulling Stoll out of the way, it's not a violation.

It's a pretty egregious loophole, from my perspective, that skirts right between the intent of two penalties, but it's not technically against the rules currently.

That's one of the worst no calls I've ever seen. You can't do that lol
Sure you can. Have you read some of the comments in the thread stating that the NFL has already confirmed it’s not illegal? Nothing against you, but I really wish the conspiracy theory folks would take that talk somewhere else because it’s absolutely ludicrous.

If that move is truly legal now then I guess we should expect to see that all the time now without any controversy

I’m sure we can use it with impunity on Thursday. Given their street free agent kicker status, it should work well for us.

If this had been reversed and a Seahawks player did this play it would be national news Just like the “golden catch”. There would be outrage and emergency meetings to change the rule but south Alaska does not merit the attention.
if it is legal, I expect Seattle to use it on Thursday against the niners!

I hate the NFL allowing players to jump over the O-Line for FG blocks but if the NFL outlawed it as a principle the O-Linemen would just go down on all fours. The defender jumping didn't touch anyone whilst in the air and his block was on a purely vertical jump. He doesn't do anything wrong. The question is whether the other defenders break the rules by pushing down on the O-Linemen. I'm not 100% sure it's illegal. meh. I hate this play. What stands out to me is how low to the ground the Seahawks O-Line are at the snap. If they're in a normal stance or they have their heads up the defense wouldn't be able to do this. Good scouting by the Giants I guess, but i'm not a fan.

How come there was no flag or review we should have challenged that
Honestly before that there were definitely other plays MM should’ve challenged but didn’t

It sucks for us in that instance no doubt.

Jumping however is just part of football.
If they were to outlaw jumping over the line in that instance what would be next.
Can’t jump over the line to score a TD, can’t jump/hurdle a guy trying to tackle you, can’t jump to catch a ball.

I do believe that the block by pushing a guy down in that instance should be revisited by the NFL, now that it’s been highlighted like this, I believe we will see it a lot more AND we will see teams using variations of the technique in differing situations.

I loved Macdonald's answer. He basically said who cares if its illegal, block the guy in the A gap and it doesn't matter.

Yeah, I completely missed that too, now I feel kind of bad for blaming the center for not moving.

So the real question is...if its legal, why doesn't every team do this on every field goal?

Great. You just had to say it, didn't you. This will now head to the Rules Committee and you know they'll jump all over it. You just ruined the game even more. Repent Now!

Not sure i remember this correctly. Wasn't the rule changed a few years back when Bobby was jumping the line and we were blocking field goals to prevent guys jumping the line? I seem to remember Bobby getting flagged for it. Either way it's not the reason we loss, but it sure didn't help. Would be nice to see games called fairly. Cant imagine how the Chef's will use this loophole since they seem to get every generous call on game day.
