I miss Pete

Let's not forget Pete started 6-3 in the last two seasons. I doubt this team would look significantly different if he were still coaching.

I’m grateful to Pete for everything he brought this franchise. In some ways I miss him, but I’m glad the franchise decided to go in the direction they did. Pete was overall pretty damn consistent. He was consistent in bringing home a winning record most every season. He was so damn consistent that I felt in every fiber of my being that if a game was competitive, there was a good chance of a win in the 4th quarter.

The Pete era was THE BEST ERA of Seahawks football. I enjoyed that ride completely.

With a brand new to the head coaching ranks Mike Macdonald, we are certain to go through growing pains. It’s been a decade and a half since this fan base has experienced growing pains. It’s probably gonna suck for awhile and we as fans need to be patient.

Knowing this fan base, that last sentence gave me pause. Patience among fans? Do the best you can.

I was at the game yesterday and one of the things that struck me looking at the sidelines through my binoculars was a partial difficulty in finding MM among the team. Part of it is my unfamiliarity with MM. Another part of it is his age, as from my vantage point when looking for him his youth blended in with those around him. Pete had a very real presence on the sideline. Didn’t see or sense that same type of presence. Two completely different people but still, most head coaches have a very distinctive “I’m in charge” vibe going on. Simply put, Pete is more charismatic than Mike.

I could be reading nothing into that, as mm is new to the position, really young and still learning what it means to be a head coach.

Three losses in a row sucks. I’m ready to enjoy the growth phase that is sure to come. Eventually.

That's a quality sentiment of which I largely agree with. Unfortunately, we're not allowed to like Pete anymore. If we don't pretend to be unable to distinguish him from Tyrone Willingham, it makes it more difficult to keep up the delusion that we havnt become the reincarnation of the Gus Bradley Jaguars.

I don't think we know the truth about WHY Pete got fired.

I do miss Pete. I think Pete Carroll is so much more than just a coach... I'm not going to go into more than that.

I think there are many reasons why the Hawks are not meeting expectations of the fan base. The biggest is the competition in the NFL is the MOST competitive in the world today and it's very very difficult to win the SB.

That being said I do not dislike MM. I absolutely miss Pete with all that I am... I love Pete for what he represents to the world. That's just my truth!

What I don't understand however, are the Seahawks fans that appear to genuinely despise Pete, and also appear to genuinely believe he was a horrible coach. Pretty wild stuff, imo.

This right here...it seems so many people have to be one or the other. It's OK to appreciate Pete Carrol and everything he brought to the team while still admitting that it was time to move on. Do I miss his relentless gum chewing on the sidelines and high fiving players like they are his buddies at a flag football game...yes...do I miss his hoorah, we'll get him next time, just keep your heads up attitude...yes...do I miss his insanely positive attitude no matter what...yes. I just wish more people would respect what he brought to this team for a long time instead of focusing on what he didn't accomplish. Not many teams have the track record that the Hawks have had over the last 10 years.

Who here has said that? The vast majority here just see it was time to move on. He had a great run that was unmatched in our history and then a lot of mediocrity and his message wasn't working anymore. The D was bad and at times horrific. There is some revisionist history with all the sentimentality about Pete here.
Pete didn't turn this franchise around in 6 games either and after a while his defense was figured out and exposed while some of his players self imploded as they sought to glorify and tout themselves at every turn. Here's looking at you Sherman.

That was my worst season as a fan in the last 25 years.

I started smoking a lot of the pot, would fall asleep during halftime and often would sleep through the end of the game only to watch his cringe press conferences.

I fully support our new coach and don't think he was a bad hire or there's anyone who can tell how he will do this early. I'm not one of the people already saying fire MM. But this does make me miss Pete. He was the greatest coach in the history of this franchise and like him or not he was an infectious personality. I miss the guy and I miss seeing him Chomp gum on the sidelines.

Honestly I miss the first 5 years with Pete. Don't miss the last years at all.

When I'm putting the Enemy posts together, I do watch snippets of the last pressers - and honestly Pete just looks like he lost it in the last couple years.

But, he brought us our only owl. So, yea. That's a thing. And it's worth respect.

I don't miss him, it was time. Heck it was time a few years ago. But that's a completely separate issue than what's going on with the existing coaching staff. When I hear "That's on me.", "We're gonna fix that" - well, I kinda expect it to get fixed.

I fast forwarded through last night's game 'cause I didn't want 3 hours of heart attacks - and because I detest prime time games for several reasons. One of my friends who suffered the whole game said: "Seems like the hole ******* team is on Gravol or something."

But, another poster has mentioned, and I think there's some truth to it: Not sure if MM has the locker room. Something changed, and the wheels fell off during/after Detroit it seems. Grubb 'forgetting' to call run plays - and a bunch of other snippets that don't really add up. You don't forget to call 1/2 your game.

Miss old Pete and wish the MM era was going MUCH better than it is. That's how I feel about it. The new guard has been talking about correcting it for a couple weeks - and last night was the result. Record matters.

Never want/wanted either regime to fail. The hole we're digging ourselves this season sucks ass.

Sure some people go a little over the top with Pete hate. We saw the same stuff with Russ hate and now with Macdonald. I think most people in here are reasonable though. I don’t think there is anything wrong with people wanting to move another direction towards the end of Pete’s run. Year after year we never improved. I would agree with you though that if someone said Pete was a. As coach they’re out of line.

Listen, it doesn’t matter if Carroll got the back to back Super Bowl, at some point, he had to go.

I’m not sure how much NFL Seahawks fan follow outside of Seahawks football but Father Time stays undefeated!

Newsflash, even the GOAT HC of all time was let go.

Sometimes the league determines how long you stay in the league, not some fans undying, somewhat blinded love, for a coach. We get Carroll did this and accomplished that but man, it was not getting any better.

Seattle needed a change and we will see how far Mac will go but how many more of those “Pete earned whatevers” can you justify??

Jodi Allen thought enough was enough and I’m glad she did, even if the last 3 games have been disappointing.
