I went full-on "We're Seattle and this will somehow blow up in our faces" at this point during the actual game. Do you know how mortifying it is to expect failure and to watch it happen calmly and disconnectedly? It sucks.

So this year, I am just going to be confident that Seattle will win instead of expecting the worst. Sure, it's only superstition that my attitude has any effect on the game, but still, sports and superstition go together nicely.

That game will seriously never get old. Sherman's special teams return TD from Red's blocked kick is just awesome, and you know every 49ers fan was like NOOOOOOOOOO, I ****ING HATE YOU RICHARD SHERMAN!!!!!!!!!!!

What made that return so sweet was it came not long after the bad call on Chancellor's hit on Davis.

Pretty much, yeah. God, our defense sucked in 4th quarters last year. One of the worst in the league in the 4th quarter, actually.

Don't forget 3rd down defense either.

Seriously, has their ever been a better defense that was less clutch?

It's pretty unlikely, but that would be a really hard thing to check back through the history of the NFL on. I have a feeling we will improve dramatically in 4th quarter defensive performance this year, though. As long as Quinn just keeps our boys playing normal defense at the end of 4th quarters. The majority of the bad 4th quarter stats came in the final two minutes of our games.

Honestly I knew that game was doomed from the moment Ginn muffed that kick. Ginn was one of the most sure-handed in the league and I just got a bad feeling once that happened. Some games, nothing goes your way and every combination of bad things happens... This was one of those games.

Yep, true that. Kind of reminds me of the time we played you guys several years ago and let Ginn return two TDs in the space of a few minutes against us. Ugh.

I would gladly accept the Seahawks beating us to a pulp every srason if it means we still take the division and go deeper in the playoffs. All bragging rights for that game went out the window when we took care of ATL. Thats why I always shake my head at the obsession with that game. It didn't cost the Niners anything as they took care of NE the week before.

Correct me if im wrong but didnt that game force the niners to actually play the last week and to win otherwise if the Seahawks won they would of had homefield and won the division since both teams had 11 wins at the end of the season.

Knocked the Niners out of the #2 seed with that win, but GB tanked their last game and gave it back. Before the GB loss it was a bigger deal.

No, in a rivalry, the last game's result is always a way to talk smack. Sorry, bud.

Niners fans were talking about being 3-0 against Seattle with Harbaugh and winning the last four, so it's not like all of a sudden that sort of smack talking goes away once the Niners are on the wrong side of the ledger.

And by the way, the 49ers taking care of ATL became irrelevant as soon as they choked the Super Bowl away if we want to use your logic.

I think you are technically right but most people here were counting on the Niners loosing to NE and playing Sea to win the division. beating NE all but locked up the division assuming they won against the Cardinals at home (foregone conclusion). The game against Seattle meant zero as the Niners ended up with the 2 seed.

49ers fans won't admit it, but when halftime came and it was 7-6 49ers, they were all nervous as hell, too.

Back to the OP...

Even though we lost that game, I love watching the 14 minutes and 29 seconds of the 4th quarter. It was pretty epic...just to lose. Kind of like Rocky where he just about beats Apollo Creed.

But it also sets up "Rocky II"...to be continued.

The ninners won the West last year and played/lost in the Superbowl... but the team to beat in the West going forward from that head-to-head game in early December is Seattle, hands down.

It was the whoppin' of the decade as far as I am concerned. I'll never erase that game off of My DVR.

What ninners fawns also forget is the score was 42-6 with less than two minutes to play. Two lousy field goals!! That's all they scored except for the TD at 1:40 left in the game.
