Part of me thinks it's just to drive ratings and create drama.
Think about it. If they all admit we are the better team and will likely just roll them... There's no excitement there.
Most people know we are the better team.
If they hype it as a matchup with the Rams are favored, it maximizes viewership and the opportunity to set a compelling narrative in the SB around Darnold's rebirth - he proved the naysayers (ie everyone) wrong and is now poised to bring Seattle a championship.
I personally think the hype around the QB position is way overblown. I mean, I think it's great that for example, Sam has gone 14-3 in back to back seasons, but to pitch it as though HE has done it alone is silly and he would be the first person to tell you that. Or that the matchup this week is Stafford V Darnold. No, it's SEATTLE vs LA.
We have returned to an era when, as when the Cowboys reigned supreme 30 years ago, the QB needs to be smart, efficient and get the job done when called upon. If Troy Aikman played today he wouldn't even be considered a top 10 player at the position. His stats were never 'Mahomes' - like in the regular season but he could turn it on in the post season when called upon.
Sam has already shown that even after some pretty bad mistakes in week 16, that when the game is in the balance and he needs to be perfect, he can be.
Hoping he shows everyone that on Sunday.
