You say that like the guy he got beat out by was just some random third rounder, rather than the best QB in franchise history, who was one of the league's best from the start. Not exactly shame in losing that battle, given that Flynn played well and got beat more than he lost it. He later messed up his elbow and was never the same, but he never looked bad for us. Even before the Seahawks, he didnt have a huge body of work, but it wasn't just backups he was looking good against either.

I agree with tempering enthusiasm on Milton, I just think Flynn is a poor example.
It's more about evaluation, Flynn was Mr. Back up and a Super star at it, Wilson was a 3rd round guy that was expected to be a career back up at best if he even made a team. Coaching, Scheme, time for them to develop, all a factor. Wilson beat him out and we really won't ever know if Flynn was able to be a starter as you stated due to injury. But John and Petes Evaluation of him and then drafting Wilson and not expecting him to win the job against a guy they just signed for a big contract speaks to how they and others can be wrong till these guys are in the fire at the right time.

I think really letting Howell given a real chance behind an even serviceable line should be given a hard look.

Absolutely ******* not. He's not even a remotely starting caliber QB, he's Brett Favre with all the turnovers and none of the talent
Guess you missed looking at his college stats, oh well nobody likes homework.

College stats have nothing to do with success. Josh Rosen had great college stats and was a bum as a pro
oh so the draft doesn't matter, all those players that get drafted, the stats they accumulate don't matter, it's just a crap shoot hoping you hit, Look at his evaluations up until his senior year, he lost most his offense around him his senior year and was hurt so he dropped, before that was projected to possibly be the first pick. I am not calling him the next Messiah, I am saying with a halfway functional O line and OC give him a chance to show what he can do.

You're right, the draft and QB assessment is a crap shoot and Howell is Snake Eyes

I wouldn't mind taking a flyer on Howard.

A nice write-up on Howard's rise:

Teams that tried to pressure Howard by bringing extra defenders paid for it. According to Pro Football Focus, Howard posted a 139.8 NFL passer rating against the blitz this year, completing 75.2 percent of his passes with 15 touchdowns and just one interception.

Howard also thrived on throwing the ball deep. While 20-plus yard passes only accounted for 11.1 percent of his attempts, Howard completed an impressive 27-of-47 deep shots for eight touchdowns and just two interceptions.

Milroe sucking at the Senior bowl

QB Jalen Milroe, Alabama

Senior Bowl week was viewed as a major turning point for Milroe’s draft position and it hasn’t gotten off on the right foot. He missed a ton of throws, was shaky taking snaps, and continued to look like an athlete playing quarterback. He’s among the most polarizing prospects in the class and a string of subpar performances could severely tank his draft position. There was a level of rust among all of the QBs in Mobile, but he’s going to have to do a lot more in the next few days to solidify himself as a rightful top pick.

There was a level of rust among all of the QBs in Mobile, but he’s going to have to do a lot more in the next few days to solidify himself as a rightful top pick.

"Those traits are really hard to find," an NFL scouting source said. "Obviously he's a good football player and that skill set is unique just because he's got a big arm and he's a heck of an athlete. He's not going to be like your Carson Beck drop-back pocket passer. He's got more of a unique skill set. He kind of fits the mold of the more recent QBs like Jayden Daniels, the guys that can throw it and they can run it, like Justin Fields. I think teams are more open to that skill set now because they've seen guys come in the league and be successful."

Milroe made several accurate throws to open receivers and delivered a perfect pass down the right sideline against tight man coverage. However, the wide receiver couldn't secure the catch, allowing the defensive back to knock it loose. He also threw a touchdown to an open receiver during the 11-on-11 drill down the field.
Milroe made a few off-target throws during the one-on-one sessions, though.
Consistency is key in Milroe's development. But Thursday clearly turned out to be his best performance of the week. More passing reps throughout the daily practices would have provided Milroe with more development/improvement. Unfortunately, that was the case.

I see Malik Willis with more talent around him. In the fourth round? Great! Earlier? Hard no. He'll be starting at zero as a passer that can make more than one read. Multiple people at the senior bowl said he was so bad at processing that he froze on a number of occasions.

I just think he symbolizes a lot, where is the NFL going? Defense and run game hasn't failed.

He's a RB with a cannon whom an NFL offense might be built around. Him plus overdrafting two fat angry guards and the rest defense is intriguing..

The only way I would take Milroe is if it was in rounds 5 through 7. He's just not good enough to be considered in any relm as the talent Daniel's has. Howard is a guy i think would be worth drafting in the later rounds aswell.
