HUGE play by Cliff Avril on the Malcom Smith interception

Watch that Sherman tip/Smith pick at the end of the Niners game again.

Cliff Avril DESTROYS Anthony Davis at right tackle. Drives him right into Kaepernick's lap.

No doubt in my mind that hurries the QB's decision making process and that's why he throws to a Sherman-covered Crabtree on his first read.

Quinton Patton is open in the flat to the left. He could've dumped it out there, picked up six yards and stopped the clock by going out of bounds.

It's hard to see how well covered Boldin and Vernon Davis are.

But without a shadow of doubt Avril makes a huge play to force the quick decision. A big time play with the game on the line -- and almost as important as Sherman's tip.

Really too bad, as it couldn't have happened to a much nicer of a guy.

The clock was ticking....they had to have that Touchdown. Lots of pressure on the QB to "force" the throw into a tight window. It was close...Sherm's hand got in the way at the exact split second, however.

True, but I do think Avril made him maybe change his arm angle a little so the ball was floated just a little bit more than Kaepernick would like. He usually throws that on a rope.

kaepernick throws that on a rope and Sherman picks it off.

Great point. We'll never know what he would have done if he had all kinds of time to throw. I'm glad we didn't have to find out. Cliff brought the heat that play!

He was set in his throwing motion before the pressure. He was going there with or without Davis in his lap. Horrible decision as that is an interception more often than not and an incompletion if it isn't tipped. No chance of getting that ball to Crabtree in bounds IMO.

Kaepernick just gave a token answer, as with all his post-game stuff.

You don't avoid Sherman all game and then go, "gee -- now is the time, with the game on the line, to target him pre-snap."

He also said he'll go to Crabtree every time 1v1. So why wasn't every throw aimed at Crabtree then? Because he wasn't double covered at any point in the game.

Kaepernick's answer is nonsense.

Avril had a huge impact there.

What would you expect him to say? Yep, I was getting rushed, got scared, made a bad decision.

Not a token answer at all. Kaep made no attempt to scan the field. It was clear as day who he was going to on that play presnap. Not sure how Kaep can be called a one read QB all year long and now people are second guessing him going with his first read. I will give you maybe Avril disrupted his throwing motion or timing. There is no way Avril forced Kaep to make that throw and even without Avril that pass had an extremely small chance of succeeding. You can take his words out of context the he "would go to Crabtree everytime" vs 1on1 was talking about that specific situation (goal line game on the line). Avril had a great game agreed. But huge impact on that play is an extreme overstatement.

I watched this play about 30 times last night. I believe Kap had almost 4 seconds even with Avril blowing up his man. The hawks were rushing 2 from one side and playing 2 DEs to contain a run to the left. Anyways, seemed like Kap had to throw to Crabtree or start scrambling. Glad it worked out for us.

Sorry, but I don't believe everything that comes out of his mouth. He was covering for his mistake and pimping his team mate. "I'd take that matchup against anybody" Uh...okay...

It may be true, but I wouldn't bank on it based on what Kap said.

Base it on 19 games of Kaep doing the exact same thing this season. It is like some of you have never seem Kaepernick play before.

Even if Kaep had made up his mind, it's not as if it reduces the potency of Avril's play. HAD Kaep been going elsewhere, Avril's play woulda been paramount.

Seemed like a good throw and pretty accurate. And probably if Sherman wasn't 6'3, they might have gotten a completion. I say over 3/4 of CBs won't be able to make a play like Sherman did.

I can agree with that.
