How fast will Zabel adapt?

I think people make WAY too much about where a kid plays ball. Like WAY too much. Reminds me of Josh Allen coming out of Wyoming. He won't make it in the NFL, he's to inaccurate, he played at Wyoming blah blah blah.
You can either play or you can't.
Didn’t JA take like 3 years to become good?

Zabel will adjust from the gitgo and will get even better as he goes. BUT, while he has experience at all positions he can only play one at a time. So the problem we have is to find someone who can "Zabel" the RG spot. Cabeldue is one possibility but it remains to be seen if he can pull it off at this level.

You nailed it Appy!!!

Every rookie has a welcome to the NFL moment or even game as they learn to raise their game as a pro player. Zabel will be no different but has to me already shown his humility and strength of character. Those strengths will motivate him to excel.

At present the team has indicated they want him to play G, he will and be better than any who we presently have at LG and hopefully special. I think we will be very happy with him and he will be a player who justifies his draft position.

I am going to be very interested in watching the expected to be ruthless competition for each of the interior OLine positions and remain hopeful that at last perhaps the competition will cause the development of a genuinely strong OLine.

The change of style in OLine blocking to a more zone blocking scheme should allow several of the guys we have here now to show their stuff and if not they’ll be gone.

I must say I was very happy with the pick by the team of Zabel where he was picked. I expect him to prove he was worth that pick.

OP is talking growing pains, which Allen had many of navigating the transition from college to the pros. Not whether or not Zabel will make it as a pro.

Allen's progression from Wyoming to elite level NFL QB was far from linear.

The more relevant and useful comparisons than Allen to Zabel, which is comparing QB to Oline; are comparisons between quality oline prospects who played at a lower level of college ball like Cody Mauch, Spencer Brown, Quinn Meinerz and Ali Marpet. All who figured it out and became strong professionals. Heck, you can go as far back as Larry Allen. It makes for a promising transition, even if we account for relative whiffs such as Dillon Radunz and Forrest Lamp.
Dang good post @KinesProf Someone knows their O-Line stuff!

Regarding Zabel…

Here is what I know. Early in the season, Zabel will make a mental error or get flat out beat by an NFL caliber defenseman. During that same week, someone drafted behind Zabel at any position will have a crazy good game. The following Monday, there will be a thread about how JS is dumb ass for missing out on (insert name here).

It’s a league full of the greatest athletes in the world literally playing to provide for their families. He will make mistakes. He will recover. He will be a solid starter and contributor here for at least the next three to four years and probably closer to 8-10.

Humbled? He’s going to humble the NFL. Eventually they are going to let him play all five o line positions…at the same time! In fact I have inside scoop that Chuck Norris has been humbled by this pick and is turning in his retirement papers as the most amazing human ever.
Yes, but while playing all five O-Line positions at the same time, Zabel will have to play Center, because *someone* has to snap the ball.
Here's a sneak preview of what it will look like with Zabel playing all 5 positions:

All 5 positions? Kinda Ethan Pocic? I was against trading Pocic, but I understand the trading of a Schneider drafted 5-position lineman was Pete's fault. Zabel is the Ferrari version of the Suzuki Pocic.

...Second thought, I trust the eyes and opinions of John Schneider more than yours. John is the president of our team's football operations a renown guru in diagnosing OL problems, and solving them...

RG position is loaded; we drafted a high-round RG in consecutive years. We have a physical freak in Bradford, the highest-rated guard in Haynes, and whatever his name rookie who started a few games last year. We are three deep in RG, nothing to worry about.

More than three deep at the moment. But if there is nothing to worry about why am I worried? Because we had plenty of opportunity to fix the problem but only fixed it halfway. That is what I am worried about. Took us about ten years to get this close. How long will it take to get the entire message addressed?

The only worrisome thing is why some folks are worried. If RG is the problem, we could have signed a veteran RG in the free agency period, or drafted another G. Our front office did not, but why didn't they? Because the problem was solved by changing QB and WR.
