How culpable is GM John Schneider?

The John supporters always say, "if we fired him, another team would scoop him right up." They are probably right. If you are one of these bottom feeder organizations always picking near the top of the draft, being mediocre sounds pretty good.
That is true, Schneider being an average to slightly above-average GM, plenty of teams with below-average GM see him as an upgrade.

its doesn't seem to have translated into anything substantial. the rams are on the downswing.
On the downswing? You are nuts, they look to me to be the odds on favorite to win the West in 2025, and challenge for another championship. They look loaded to me.

I'll make my own 'skipping record' noise here - 'cause I keep saying it:

JS needs to go. He doesn't have a blind spot about the OLine: "They are over valued and over paid." His words.

This situation will NOT get fixed as long as he is here. Period. I hate to say that, but it's true.

Pete didn't cripple JS with his non-approval of acquisitions. Pete was the only brain in the room apparently. I think it was completely the other way around.

Until JS goes - we're largely the same as what we've seen this season. Again, with a decent OC able to mask the problem with at least somewhat creative playcalling and outside motion - giving us an 11 win team that will STILL be one and done if/when we make the playoffs.

JS ain't changin'. Just sayin'. We've seen the movie. We know how it ends.

And I'm just afraid that Jody either doesn't care, or doesn't know what to do. I'll refer everyone to watching 'Any given Sunday' again if you want to know what I think the ownership of the Hawks situation is. There's a reason that PC on his way out said that the decisions weren't being made by "Football People".

Rant off. Would LOVE to be wrong.
Who is working for the Cowboys? They seem to have great scouting, and player personnel staffing. They ALWAYS have great players. Stupid owner, but great players

Yeah, I’m not sure anyone cares if another team picks him up. Even if another team does, if they want to be an elite team, they are not going to pick him up to be GM.

Didn’t Schneider also say he wants to spend more time on his sons foundation work as well?

Not sure if Schneider even wants to be GM again if Seattle cut ties with Schneider.

I've asked this before but rarely see a clear answer: It's easy to count the number of 'great' picks Schneider had and go 'well, I think there should have been more' (hindsight being what it is).

My question is, during Schneider's tenure as a GM relative to other GMs picking in similar spots, how does he compare? I've never seen anyone make this argument in context.

I'm not a Schneider fan or a hater but when people assure me that he's bad or good, I still never receive any context on what that means.

There are just too many storylines that get tossed around like gospel that don't actually hold up to scrutiny and I feel like the narratives around Schneider fall into the same boat but I honestly don't know enough about comparative draft value from Seattle's picks to know.

For $#!+s and giggles I went to look up what JS is known for, it's basically nothing, haha. He's best known for the LOB build, and I have him as a partial factor in all of that.

So, LOB aside, homie isn't well-known for anything. Seems like maybe he needs a fire lit under him, because he isn't bringing much to the table from what I can see. Reading about him made me think an upgrade is probably necessary. Maybe...

I do like some of the moves last offseason, in hindsight, maybe some head scratchers. But, things are trending forward. So, let's see what he can do about the OL. If it's not jack, well...smell ya later.

I was in favor of firing Pete and retaining John but his FA moves this offseason, Grubb hiring (which I believe he was responsible for) and weak drafts especially OL has soured my support for him. Ownership should give him to mid-season next season then evaluate where the team is at. If there hasn't been progress, they should cut him loose.

The organization should have moved on from Pete and John at the same time. If you fire John after next season, you're only 2 years through a 6 year deal with the head coach that the former GM picked. That would be a weird dynamic.

I do hear that a lot too but how many GMs get a retread shot? How many get a second shot and have any success?

I also hear those a lot of those same folks talk about other teams poaching our FO every off season. We've had one member of his scouting staff get hired away as a GM in the decade and a half he's been here. He's already been let go from that gig and in DC.
