I agree that coaching has a lot to do with it. But I think the Rams made some pretty good decisions in drafting the likes of Puka Nacua, Jared Verse, Braden Fiske, Kobie Turner and Byron Young in the last two years. I mean they drafted their entire starting defensive line in two years! And except for Verse, none of them were 1st round picks. Oh, and they drafted a pretty good guard in Steve Avila.A lot of that os coaching. Drop those same players in Seattle and i doubt that prior to Mac being here, they perform the same.
I'll give Schneider the benefit of the doubt for having been tied to buikding a team for / with Pete. He is one year removed from that regime and his biggest miss this year IMO was OC. I know i am in the minority here, but i genuinely belive that had we had even competent NFL playcalling, we win one or two more games. And if that happens, we are in the playoffs, the line doesnt look as bad, and we are talking about how close we are to another championship.
The Grubb hire threw a lot of what might have been out the window.
We need better scouts more than anything else, until we fix the scouting dept, the team won't make major improvements.I agree that coaching has a lot to do with it. PFF OLine rankings have the Patriots at #32, Seahawks #31, Bengals #30, Texans #29, Titans #28 for 2024.He also takes the 'bad offensive line for 10 years' stuff at face value when it's not that clear cut. (2021 and 2022 they were below average but not garbage. They were probably at least okay--if not good--from 2018-2020 though offensive line specific stats are hard to come by outside of the last few years, but they were #1 in Time to Pressure in 2018 combined with being top 10 in run stuff rate. The fact that Russ took a lot of sacks and JS's comments about drafting IOL have really overly influenced this conversation.)
I think the point is JS is not only doing poorly in FA but also in the draft. If the Rams can totally reload their DLine, JS should be having a similar impact and he's not.I thought we were talking about John Schneider. SEAHAWKS GM
Is the scouting department not under JS control? If there are issues then that's on him.We need better scouts more than anything else, until we fix the scouting dept, the team won't make major improvements.
His good drafts? Please name the all-pro that he drafted in the last ten years? Ok, allpros are hard to come by, how many probowls? In one hand or needs two hands?John is not a bad GM, he's just not a great one. Two GMs in his division alone have been kicking his ass in recent years. He's been living off the reputation of those early drafts for quite some time. His good moves just don't outweigh his bad ones by a wide enough margin and he clearly has a blind spot when it comes to offensive line. I'm ready for a fresh set of eyes, but apparently Jody hasn't reached that point yet. So all we can do is buckle up and get ready for another interesting off-season.
This is fair, but I don't personally buy PFF's O-Line rankings that are too reliant on their personal review of individual O-Lineman, which is fine (to the degree you respect PFF's rankings) to figure out what individual lineman is a weak-link but less for evaluating overall O-Line performance.PFF OLine rankings have the Patriots at #32, Seahawks #31, Bengals #30, Texans #29, Titans #28 for 2024.
Seahawks were #28 in 2023, and #27 in 2022.
Wilson had #25 in 2021, #14 in 2020, #27 in 2019, #18 in 2018, #27 in 2017, #32 in 2016, #30 in 2015, #19 in 2014 and #27 in 2013.

I left out Dickson, my bad. He was an all pro in 2018. I left out Shaquill too, a long forgotten name. You asked. Two hands. 7 pro bowls in 10 years.
Shaquill Griffin 1, Michael Dickson 1, DK Metcalf 2, Riq Woolen 1, Devon Witherspoon 2
Is this sarcasm?its doesn't seem to have translated into anything substantial. the rams are on the downswing.
Wilson had some terrible lines and put up monster numbers. Sort of crazy looking back on itPFF OLine rankings have the Patriots at #32, Seahawks #31, Bengals #30, Texans #29, Titans #28 for 2024.

Sure, if it can be justified as a short term rental alone then there's no need for an extension. On the other hand, if you acquire a player and come to find that they aren't a fit in the room or on the team, you at least haven't doubled down on the error by giving them new money.
That's a good example in that we ended up signing him several million dollars higher than the market estimate. Which is normal for free agency, but it's doubtful we would have outbid everybody else if we hadn't traded draft capital for him, and I agree with you that he likely would have signed here anyway if we did make that best offer.Didn't we do that exact thing with Leonard Williams?
Granted, I'm not convinced that we couldn't have just signed him on free agency anyway and kept our second rounder. Regardless of what he said about why he signed here, I still think he would have come here since we were offering the most money.
PFF is biased like any observer would be to varying degrees. The problem is there aren't many places to go to get data on OLine performance. This is fair, but I don't personally buy PFF's O-Line rankings that are too reliant on their personal review of individual O-Lineman, which is fine (to the degree you respect PFF's rankings) to figure out what individual lineman is a weak-link but less for evaluating overall O-Line performance.
Fair enough. I was trying to be positive by pointing out the good because a few people have suggested that I have been too critical of John and need to give him more time in a post Pete Carroll world. But make no mistake about it. I am not a big fan. To me he is a very middle of the road general manager. To put it another way, he's the Geno Smith of GMs.I'll make my own 'skipping record' noise here - 'cause I keep saying it:
JS needs to go. He doesn't have a blind spot about the OLine: "They are over valued and over paid." His words.
This situation will NOT get fixed as long as he is here. Period. I hate to say that, but it's true.
Pete didn't cripple JS with his non-approval of acquisitions. Pete was the only brain in the room apparently. I think it was completely the other way around.
Until JS goes - we're largely the same as what we've seen this season. Again, with a decent OC able to mask the problem with at least somewhat creative playcalling and outside motion - giving us an 11 win team that will STILL be one and done if/when we make the playoffs.
JS ain't changin'. Just sayin'. We've seen the movie. We know how it ends.
And I'm just afraid that Jody either doesn't care, or doesn't know what to do. I'll refer everyone to watching 'Any given Sunday' again if you want to know what I think the ownership of the Hawks situation is. There's a reason that PC on his way out said that the decisions weren't being made by "Football People".
Rant off. Would LOVE to be wrong.
