How confident are we in Byron Maxwell?

I'm nervous. Not trembling, but it certainly has my attention. We've got a big game with Drew Brees coming up. Kenny Stills is a burner. You know Brees is going to test Maxwell early and often. I think he'll do pretty well. I do think he is going to be a bit penalty prone. I think he's going to give up some plays while he learns, so it will be important for him to also make some big plays of his own to offset them.

I'm no less comfortable with Maxwell's cover skills than BB's. What we miss from BB is his intimidation / big play. But we are actually in a fairly luxurious spot (looking for a silver lining here), IF we move on seamlessly, BB won't have much power at the negotiation table. And/or, we won't be paying him huge money. Earl and Tate, then Sherman and RW will require obscene money to keep. This injury to BB may help to make those (critical, IMO)signings possible. Ditto for Rice. The guy I'm going to miss will be Miller. Not a catch in Atlanta and while he is WAY more than a ball catcher, his salary will likely have him somewhere else. Unless we get ASJ, I think he will be missed in big fashion.

I'm ok with Maxwell, but he is not as good as Browner. The major difference is the physicality that BB brings at the LOS on press coverage. Maxwell is not able to throw his WR off his route as good as BB. Just look at their frames- Maxwell is skinny and wiry whereas BB looks like a LB out there. Note that Maxwell covers his arms up with long sleeves because he's embarrassed by his (lack of) guns.

Excellent point about the physicality aspect...but to me, he looks TOO big these days. But WTH do I know? We're 9-1 and every time I start thinking BB is becoming a liability in coverage, he makes a game changing paly. love the guy but if he's looking for Kam money, which for a CB would be fair, I just don't think he's going to get it in Seattle. He's looking more and more like a safety and we're good, and young, at safety.

Browner expends a lot of his energy at the LOS and is thus prone to sometimes getting burnt. It'll be interesting to see if Maxwell can find an even better balance. He certainly looked good against the Falcons.

Has there been any update as to severity or prognosis with Browner yet??

I like Maxwell. I actually think we may improve in the nickel package with him in there personally but we shall see.

Nice. "Balance" may be the reward in this. IF BB doesn't get the jam, he is instantly at a disadvantage and even Earl can only do so much to protect him. But I love the guy. Opposing players fear Earl and Sherman, but they are flat out afraid of BB and Kam.

Bro, last I heard Pete said yesterday that it will take a couple of days for the med staff to evaluate the severity of the damage.

In what little I know of this type of injury, it can easily be 4-6 weeks until he gets back to 100%. If he can get back before or in time for the 1st playoff game I don't think Pete will IR him, but if present thoughts are he would be doubtful to play by then he will probably go on the IR. Just my opinion on that issue.
Don't we have to create a spot for Percy?
I hope Dom is monitoring this situation closely.

I don't expect to see Browner again until the playoffs. What's the rush really? We have the depth....
