He was maybe the best true coach of his era. Eric Allen really over a guy like Mike Holmgren?

Wow. That might be it for him. He's not getting in next year because Belichick is eligible.

I am beyond shocked that Luke Kuechly didn't make it. I assumed Eli would too, even though I didn't think he should.

In my mind, there were three locks in this class: Gates, Kuechly, and Vinatieri. Two of them didn't make it.

Eric Allen, really? The NFL is starting to get baseball bad with this HOF voting process. So much politics involved. Just vote for the best damn candidates.

Mike Holmgren belongs.
I hope his "Didn't think we'd have to play the guys in the striped shirts too." After our jobbing in SB40 doesn't cost him the HOF. I guess not everyone gets into the Hall just for playing for Green Bay.

Is there normally only 4 each year? Either way, what a joke.

That's crazy. I think Holmgren is an all timer. His influence, his coaching tree, the players that all point to him as a major reason why they were successful makes him an automatic. Not trying to upset anyone but I think he's the greatest coach in franchise history.

I dont see what's so impressive about Dick Vermeil's resume where he was considered a no-brainer pick forever ago, while Holmgren can't even get in when he's basically in his own category and not competing with anyone.

I also thought that Gates, Kuechly, and Vinatieri were locks. I thought Allen, (Eric) and 1 of either Holt or Wayne would also get it. That would have been my top 5. I'm very pleased to see Sterling Sharpe finally get in. He was the #3 WR in the NFL when he played behind Rice and Carter. His induction is long overdue. Holmgren should be in, but i'm not surprised he isn't. There are 53 players on a roster and only 1 HC. Statistically a coach will go in every 9 years or so. Parcells was inducted in 2013 and Coryell was posthumously inducted in 2023, (yes - that recently!). There was no specific push for Holmgren to go in this year. Outside of the Seahawks and Packers he's not thought of as a HoF coach.

I don't think his calling out the refs has much of anything to do with it. This is sports media people voting, not owners or representatives of the NFL. I think it's more about voters not doing their homework and/or just being biased towards less deserving candidates.

Edgar Martinez didn't get into the baseball HOF until like the last ballot, and he was almost universally regarded by his fellow players, especially pitchers, as being one of the premier hitters and toughest outs in the league for ten years or more. He knew how to hit a baseball, one of the hardest things to do in professional sports.

Sometimes I think it's players and coaches who truly know who's deserving of such a thing.
