Didn't he get a massive fine for that hit? Not sure how you can even argue that is was legal when the league reviewed it and handed out a fine.

The only thing illegal (technically) was the helmet-2-helmet which was nothing more then physics from Lee not being able to brace because he didnt see it. His head snapped down and thats when the helmets hit.

1) Tate didnt Launch until after the hit, which is completely legal. His feet were on the ground when contact was initiated, as evidence from the still shot.
2) His left shoulder is square in the chest of Lee with his helmet in contact with Lee's left shoulder. Unfortunately, the human body, and the size of helmets, makes it entirely impossible for his helmet not to be in that location with a solid shoulder hit in the chest. This is also evident in the still.
3) I have no idea how it could be considered blind-side when the still clearly shows the initiated contact is in the chest. Just because a player doesnt see you doesnt make it automatically blindside. Otherwise receivers would just run while looking away from defenders. Cmon man.

Dal u lee 600

You beat me to it. That pick is perfect because it shows every element involved in the hit. Where Tate landed, that his head was positioned below Lee's chin and at his chest, that he was planted at impact and that Lee was pursuing Wilson at the time of the hit. How the league justified a $21,000 fine for it while they only fined the guy that suplexed Okung and and put him on IR for the season $7000 is an absolute mystery to me. One was a hit to protect your QB and the other was an act of anger and revenge that happened after the play had ended. Seems pretty ridiculous to me.

It's only a helmet to helmet because Lee's head drops down. It's not even the true definition of helmet to helmet. Unfortunately the league is pushing for finesse football and any hit that looks vicious will be scrutinized and if they can justify fining the player in any way they obviously will. Look at how many flags came flying out on the Kamtrack brain dislodging of VD.

That, and Goodell is controlled by the owners, and Jerry was screaming for a fine so he got one. Its how the system works unfortunately.

Makes sense unfortunately. I sure wish Paul Allen would throw around some of that power he has to get some of these kinds of breaks for us. Like the Okung suplex (spelling?)for example.

I love reading threads like these about Seattle from other fanbases.

Seeing Minnesota's pain after we traded for Harvin AND signed Winfield was fun as well.

Agreed.

I also find it funny how I never considered us a finesse team while we were but now looking back I don't know how I didn't see it before. Seeing these teams complain that we hit to hard or our DB's are to aggressive makes me smile.

My favorite quote in there was "Irvin would have stabbed him in the neck."

We are a finesse football team, not a tough one. Tough teams can overcome mistakes by beating down teams and causing turnovers, quick feet, short arms, etc. We are soft and rely on execution, which we aren't very good at. Seattle punched us in the mouth that game and we did nothing but sit there and bleed.

If that was the 60s or 70s the guy gets up like a man, says "nice block man" and goes about his business.

And if one of his fans talked about a illegal hit he'd have told them to shut up because this is a man's game and if you're not careful you get hit.

:les:

80's too, Oh how I miss the REAL NFL. Punt returners getting laid out!! Great plays/big hits being just that, not cheap shot penalties

And now a days the coaches whine to the media and the league (in that order), about how terrible their players are being treated.

Visualize Vince Lombardi doing that..........in a pigs eye.

If that would have been Hines Ward instead of Golden Tate, the whole NFL would be celebrating that hit.

Legal hit or not, it doesn't matter. The cowboys were dominated physically in that game and the fact that they sit, whine, and moan about that hit is indicative of how SOFT that football team is.

The league levies the fine on Tate, while their own damn channel shows the hit on their highlight clips for fan entertainment.

The hit was sweet. The fine was bogus. The hate is kinda fun to hear.

I found it odd only one person admitted that it was a clean hit. If the shoe was on the other foot I know at least half here would have said how much they dislike the Cowboys but it was a clean hit.

From an objective perspective, I can definitely see the ethics being questioned. It appears, to an uneducated observer, that Tate used his head, ultimately his helmet, to strike Sean Lee in the chin.

This could be considered cheap, because this is the HARDEST way that Tate could have damaged Lee's head with one blow. The head is huge and heavy, with a helmet it becomes a wrecking ball.
Why would he need to inflict such a hit on someone who clearly wasn't looking?

Then again, it was with intent to allow his quarterback to gain more yardage, and it appears to have been somewhat within rules and legality. Therefore, if the game is designed that way, then it is legal.

Still, it doesn't sit right with the warriors code. Then again, this is more of a soldiers game anyway. There is a slight difference, but difference albeit.

EDIT:
Saw replay again, found that Sean Lee was very close to tackling Russell. The ferocity of the strike is more understandable.
Regardless, I feel bad for Tate, he is known by the uninformed for this play and the fail mary plays only. Stupid media.

Hey, two things:

1.) Seeing a WR make a block like that with little regard for his own personal safety, and with the mindset that he's going to do 100% of his job, is an absolutely beautiful thing for this humble admirer to behold.

2.) Since 9 times out of 10 you don't find a WR making these kinds of blocks, the football-observing world views it as an anomaly. Thus, the scrutiny, the whining owner squealing for a fine, and the second looks in slow motion. Had a lineman made that block, it wouldn't have received the attention.

Did I mention I'm stoked as hell that Tate is on my team?
