I’ll be honest, I think it’s ridiculous that a referee can blow the whistle and things after that can still count. Makes no sense to me.

"On Friday, Rams coach Sean McVay argued that the outcome is something that shouldn’t be in the game, adding that he believes there will be an effort to change the rule that fueled the play in the offseason."

"Per a source with knowledge of the broader dynamics at play, a change to the backward pass rule is highly unlikely."
Somebody call the Waaambulance!!!!!

He can go hang with Rivers from last week - McVay can look perturbed like a bug-eyed AR, and Rivers can cry it out!!

That rule was put in because there were too many whistles before a player was ruled to have fumbled the ball leaving those fumbles unable to be reviewed. To be clear the rule only allows for possession of the ball so basically the recovery spot. On this play the ball was recovered in the end zone. If I understand the rule correctly if he hadn’t recovered in the end zone it wouldn’t have been a good conversion.

Been this way since 2008... that Replay can be used... not sure how ANYONE could be against that

"Continuing Action" Exception : This rule allows officials to use replay to determine if a player clearly recovered a loose ball (fumble/muff) as part of the immediate, unbroken action after an erroneous whistle.

Honestly, I don't know how any fan of the NFL, any team it doesn't matter, doesn't know this rule by now. You have to be absolutely oblivious to the past decade of football. These calls happen nearly every week.

Yes I agree. Happened on the Lions Steelers game. Steelers had possession of the ball and downed and Play was whistled dead, then reviewed and ruled that it was indeed a fumble, and the Lions got the ball.

Also by definition an incomplete backward pass is not a fumble, why? because nobody had possession of the ball. The ball is still live. So an erroneous whistle also comes into play here.

A bit of trivia.. A snap by the center is considered a backwards pass.

Here is a good video on the rules:

Real question here.

Was there a whistle prior to Charb touching it?

I honestly couldn’t tell (crowd noise).
