I can't wait for Lions matchup! Lions are stacked.

We still on this? Hint for you....the NFL has a salary cap. Deal with it, especially when said dude is boffing the quarterback's wife.

Trust me Lockett will make you forget Tate ever existed and it will get ridiculous once Richardson is back.

Nice of you to be giving credence to unsubstantiated rumors.

Disappointing, especially from a mod.

Unsubstantiated rumors rearing their ugly head again, nice.

It's probably never going to be "proven" but you put all the pieces together from what we know and I don't see how anyone with their head fully out of the sand wouldn't think something very fishy didn't almost certainly happen...

I look at it like this.

Tate has addressed the rumors, via TMZ, and said RW knows the truth. RW will obviously never talk on it. So I don't know who or what to believe. Tate put the ball in RW's court and Russ has chosen to be hush about it. Did something happen? Probably. But I doubt it's as bad as most seem to think.

I love Tate as a player.

For my money he's basically who Michael Crabtree was supposed to be when Crabtree was drafted.

Historically, ignoring opportunity and just focusing on talent, I'm bullish as heck on him and seriously think Tate is the as good or better than Hines Ward.

He's always had the ability, but last year with Johnson out people finally got to see what he can do as the focal point of a passing attack.

Just a really great player who is a ton of fun to watch too.

Stings a bit coming from a Niner fan... why you gotta do us like that, popeye?

TBF:

1) IIRC I started posting here when Tate was still a Hawk and was saying how much I loved him (and making the Hines Ward comparison) even back then.

2) I, like Hawks fans, was also wrong about Percy Harvin and at the time thought it was a grade move by the Hawks, IIRC I also mistakenly thought Tate and Harvin would be a little redundant, and basically felt that although I loved Tate as a player and thought the Lions were getting exceptional value on his deal (TBH I was kinda happy for him that he'd get a chance to shine in a pass first offense), it made sense why the Hawks didn't re-sign him.

So, without the benefit of hindsight, I have always loved Tate as a player, but at the time was just as wrong as everyone else.

Yeah, although I don't think it was really a development thing with Crabtree. In order he was done in by 1) injuries and 2) ego.

If he can finally stay healthy I still think Crabtree can still have a decent career as a #2 WR/chain mover. He has the same after-the-catch wiggle as Golden Tate, but just isn't as explosive, multi-dimensional, and quite frankly, doesn't have the hussle that Tate has.

One of the things that makes Tate such a joy to watchIMO is that he's going so hard all the time it's like he's treating each reception as if it was his last. Tate's runs his routes and makes people miss like he's trying to break out of chains every play. It's just so much fun to watch. I find his plain old effort to just be really infectious.

It's partially personality, but Crabtree's just not that guy (he's a bit more fluid, a bit more precise, and a bit more laconic in both his personality and play). The big difference is that on his good plays Crabtree makes it look easy, whereas Tate makes it look like he just wants it more.
