Any thoughts on this? Found it pretty interesting

Interesting take on him. It doesn't surprise me though.

Ifedi is one of the worst performing OTs in the league. With proper coaching and the right system, I believe he could become one of the best. I doubt that will happen while Cabevell is here.

It's like they didn't learn their lesson from James Carpenter. Move the young man to guard and let him bulldoze on run plays

the odds of this being the result of randomness is somewhere in the neighborhood of 1 in 3,000

This is an EXCEPTIONALLY dishonest calculation.

It would make for a good example in a high school stats class about how to (poorly) lie with numbers.

Was just coming to post this. This is an interesting theory for sure

He certainly has the physical ability. I too would be interested to see him at Guard, and get a bonafide right tackle in the off season

Let's look again at physical ability. Ifedi has the same short shuttle time as James Carpenter (4.75 seconds). Not the ideal lateral agility for the tackle position. They are both north-south players. Both are very explosive with good broad jumps (109'' vs 106''). Of course, Ifedi would be better at guard.

The article covers the false starts but does not address the 11 other penalties. 2-Unnecessary Roughness, 8-Holding and 1-Taunting. 19 penalties killing drives right and left, it shows a lack of poise, the good news is he should improve over time.

I think Ifedi's biggest problem is football. He needs to do something else until he can get his head screwed on straight. Going backwards with our schizo offense is a drive killer all too often.

What ticks me off is this kid could be a galdarn SPECIMEN in this league! A BEAST if he had his head screwed on straight and with a new coach (clearly Cable isn't getting the job done). Take a once in a lifetime HOFer's advice and switch his butt to RG!

He will be a beast in this league, I just hope to hell he gets there with the Seahawks.

I doubt Ifedi will ever become a top flight RT, he lacks the foot and lateral quickness a solid RT needs to play the position. At least from what he has shown this season. The confidence issues may be part of his problem but his holding and false starting stem from being beaten by an edge rusher do he needs to do something to give himself an equalizer.

Sadly this is the second player drafted with a high pick by the team upon the recommendation of our OLine guru Coach Cable and neither Carpenter nor Ifedi will be best suited to play RT as a pro. I agree with the assessment of our HOF LT and believe Ifedi would be better suited to play RG where his noticeable strengths of length and physicality could be better employed than as a T, he could become dominant as a RG playing in the box. Frankly I suspect Pocic might be better employed as a RT than as a RG as he lacks the physical strength needed and can be observed to be needing some strength work in the upcoming offseason, he does have nasty and good length and might be a T candidate as the team initially indicated when drafting Pocic. To me Joeckel is an overpaid underperforming player and the assessment of him as a capable LG is wrong at least from what he has shown so far, Pocic was better. To me this of course seems contrary to the plan from Cable at least as demonstrated so far.

It will be interesting to watch Ifedi next year and to see what happens when Fant returns as I suspect Fant could become a capable RT as well. Thankfully with the addition of Brown and a return of a healthy Odihambo there at least is the potential nucleus of a good solid OLine and some players who could become strong players on the interior line.

Now the team needs to find a bell cow RB or have Carson become that guy. Getting rid of Cable might be a good thing too.

Er, no.

NFL teams employ a fully-funded battalion of counselors, sports therapists, and of course professional coaches who understand the mental aspects of the game and know what to watch for in their players. To say that Ifedi is simply a tin man whose blocking was in his heart all along is the height (or depth) of lazy fandom (though props to the writer for his research on penalties and draft positions).

The problem here is as boring and as simple as just coaching. Youth may be a factor, but plenty of young players move through the season just fine without even approaching the league lead in penalties, so I would point again back to coaching--either our staff's inability to coach the kid, or the kid's inability or unwillingness to be coached.

If those top shelf players are making him jumpy, it's probably because they know how to get under his skin, how to taunt or manipulate him at the line, which would explain the taunting and roughness flags in return. It's his coach's job to get him playing above that, rather than subject to it; to help him understand that that's just a part of the game, like any other blocking technique, and still all that matters is his own game.

Fairly or not, this also calls to mind Cable's love of "dirtbag" players with a "mean streak" rather than skilled craftsmen at the position. Whether Ifedi can't or won't improve, or even if this blogger is right and he's just nervous, his coaches must be included in the picture.

I am not buying the nervous thing. Nerves go out the window when adrenaline kicks in. When you are playing football you are in a tunnel, no player cares who's watching you on TV until the game is over. It is not the same as giving a speech in front of a large audience.

Blame it on focus, lack of preparation, stupidity, fine but not nerves.

We’ve already seen him at guard, and he wasn’t much better than he is now. In a zone blocking scheme, you have to have enough mobility to make second level blocks, and Ifedi can’t get there. I expect George Fant to win the RT job IF he makes it all the way back from surgery.

Our 1sr rounder needs to be a guard who can block Aaron Donald, and this years interior line crop looks good.

Germain Ifedi's problem: Heavy Feet and Poor Technique.

I don't think he fits with the Seahawks at all, and it is going to take a new team to try and fix him.
