It was nothing that egregious, IMO not even close.

And I’ll add this, if Geno had not slid when he did, ended up getting hurt and out for season, people here would be blasting him for not getting down earlier (especially if we lost a bunch of games as a result).

Exactly! Its not even the playoffs and we want to put our best player at risk because the rest of the trash players were ass. Geno shouldnt have even been put in that aituation going up against such a trash team. He isnt even being paid top tier qb money. How about DK not be soft and actually not drop or fumble? For how strong he looks, he plays pretty soft. How about our defense man up and make a tackle before anyone gains 5 extra yards. This team is in trouble and not going anywhere.

Im pretty sure he thought he had the yardage. Happens all the time.

Thing is, if he gies head firstband gets a concussion and is out 4 weeks, there woukd be threads about how foolish thr athlete was to take such a risk when there was still so much time left in the game.
Quarterbacks and receivers HAVE to know where the line to gain is on 3rd down. If you have a doubt, you go a little further.

Unless a defensive player lowers his head and spears a diving quarterback, which is just as likely as getting speared on a hook slide, there is very, very little risk of sustaining a concussion or any other injury by diving towards the ground.

There is no excuse for Geno not diving for that first down. None, nada, zero.

I don't buy the excuse that Geno thought he had the yardage. He probably knew where the first down marker was (at least I'd sure hope he would), but even I know that they consider you down at the spot where you begin the slide. There's too much subjectivity with ball placement to just assume you're good if you're near the marker. If he is going to be slide, there had better be no doubt that he's well past it.

Geno definitely hurt the team by not taking the contact and getting that one more yard.

DK definitely hurt the team by continuously fumbling.

JSN definitely hurt the team by not catching that last ball.

The run defense definitely hurt the team still.

The pass rush that could not sack Jones definitely hurt the team.

Tre Brown coverage definitely hurt the team.

I was singing the praises of this team two weeks ago but it’s clear, there are things wrong with this team and it’s on film and Seattle has not plugged these deficiencies yet and it’s hurting the team.

Mac needs to fix this or Seattle are exactly what the league “experts” thought they were as “frauds.”

Ball is in MacDonald’s court now…..

I guess I'm surprised that some people are defending the play. I watched a handful of other QB's on Sunday get a tough first down when it was needed. Early in a game? I'm ok with not getting it, at that point in the game? It's inexcusable to not get it and again, to his credit I can almost guarantee if asked about it he would say he screwed up and that he should've done what needed to be done to get it.

No one is saying he sucks or is a bad QB but he definitely made a mistake there, it happens to all of the them at times.

Sliding means he CHOSE to go down to avoid a hit, instead of putting his full effort on getting that first down. While he's been damn good this year, that was ridiculous. He could just dive forward and easily get it. Or........imagine this....keep f'ing running and get the damn first down. He's not made of cardboard; he can put his head down and plow into someone.

He loses a potential late hit penalty if he goes head first. This isnt the NFL of old, you gotta be smart and lucky with the refs. The rest of the team was ass so why put himself at risk when this game was already lost with how embarrassing the rest of the team played. Genos being payed like a middle of the pack QB and is playing better than that. How about DK stop being a wuss and actually hold on to the ball and stop getting arm tackled and out muscled on 50 50 balls. How about the defense actually cover someone and make a tackle. If anyone else did the job that they are paid to do, that slide wouldnt have mattered.

No, you gotta play to win. You gotta' know the situation. QB's all over the league are playing hard and pushing to get the extra yards. I'm not buying any excuses for this. He's NOT the reason they lost, but this ridiculous decision contributed.
And yet again, Geno gets a pass. Wow

...He wants the huge contract; he HAS TO make these plays.
Put yourself in his head. "If I want the next big payday, I can't get injured." It's human nature. To expect otherwise is unrealistic.

Just more excuses for a piss poor decision from the leader of the team. He has had a hell of a season, but there is no excuse for that. And he would tell you exactly the same thing. Do you think Matt or Russ would have slid there? Hell no.

Play thinking of a payday? You want that from your QB? NO, I want a guy who will do ANYTHING to help his team win the game.
Geno clearly wants to win. On that play, he folded like a tent. Make excuses all you want, it was ridiculous.

What's unrealistic is thinking it's just fine that your QB can't fight for every yard. Like Daniel f'ing Jones did ALL DAY.
The object of this game is to WIN, no matter what it takes. Not to play to avoid injury with the game in the balance.

Geno probably should have ran for another yard there.

On the other hand, Tua should have slid instead of running headfirst into a clothesline. Not smart when you have a history of concussions.

Did I excuse it? I'm just talking about the reality of human nature. It is not possible for humans to put aside subconscious behavioral influences. Since this is a fan[atic] board, I don't expect everybody to see the point.
