Smith WAS disrespected by the Seahawks management. He had a very good 2022 and he signed a below market value deal to stay in Seattle. The Seahawks could have been more respectful after a slightly disappointing 2023. Instead of committing to him at $22.5M immediately after the Super Bowl they waited for his guarantee date to kick in. Then they said they weren't committed to him but that he had trade value. He asked for an extension and/or more guarantees before the 2024 season and the team said no.

After the 2024 season the team either offered him less than he thought he was worth or didn't offer 2+ years of guarantees. Almost every starting QB gets 2 guaranteed in their extension. Smith has effectively gotten 2 years of guarantees from the Raiders. The Seahawks didn't owe Smith anything more or do anything wrong, but I can understand why he felt disrespected.

He feels the Seahawks disrespected him....Just wait until his first red zone turnover and watch how the Raiders and their fans disrespect him. Considering it's Geno we're talking about, it won't be too long.

The Seahawks offered Smith, (at that point a long-time back-up QB), a 1 year $3.5M deal. He accepted the deal and played so well as to be offered a $27.5M extension + incentives, (which he didn't attain in 2023). I don't blame the Seahawks for Smith accepting that extension or his later regretting it. I don't blame the Seahawks for not renegotiating or for trading Smith to the Raiders. I don't blame the Seahawks for running the franchise like a business. I don't feel sorry for Smith, but I understand why he feels disrespected. Other teams might have handled the contract situation differently.

All Smith did in Seattle was outperform his contract, and whilst he's not a World-beater he deserves more respect from the fan base than he's received. whatever. He's gone now.

I've never liked Geno and I believe if Russell didn't injure his finger Geno would not had his career resurgence with the Seahawks. He's had maybe 2 good years out of 12 years (he's in his 13th season starting in September) in his NFL career he wants to be paid like he was a top 10 QB? Glad he was shown the exit door. The past two seasons he couldn't top 21 passing tds for the season, that's not top 10 QB material. He peaked in 2022 and he's now sliding down each season from there. I may have tolerated him more if there weren't those on .NET who make excuses for why he's not performing well. They blame everyone else but him.

I've never liked him as a person either. Going into 2022 I didn't believe in him as a starting QB. He has proved that he is good enough to be a starting QB for a contending team. I don't think he's close to being a top 10 QB in the NFL. He isn't being paid as a top 10 veteran QB, (just taking those on rookie contracts out of the equation). I didn't mind whether the Seahawks kept him for 1 more year, extended him, or moved on. I don't criticise the Seahawks for their decision.

All that said I understand Smith's perspective.

Now you know why for the last 9 months or so, I have been advocating for Geno Smith to find employment elsewhere? He may not find job satisfaction with his new employer, but there's a chance. With the Seahawks, he has zero chance, not with the founder and CEO of club geNO as the franchise's general manager. With the Seahawks, the 12s expect Ferrari level performance, when the team paid Honda Civic price and got BMW level performance.

I am happy for him, I am at peace with my decision.

It's all about perspective. Sure, Geno might have felt disrespected in the ID of his mind. I can understand that. But there's something to be said about rising above your immediate emotional feelings/reactions and taking in a wider perspective. You know, what mature enlightened people do. You're an effing multi-millionaire and almost all of your fanbase isn't. And it's your Fanbase's team that got you there. You're just looking like a rich a-hole playing a silly game that got you there and dumping on the team that fans have more invested in than you do.

It's a sh*tty rich entitled immature ungrateful look to the fans of the team, as in don't let the door hit you in the backside on the way out.

Geno might think he was disrespected, but he needs to look in the mirror. Him calling Pete behind Mike's back all season when Pete was no longer the coach. Now that's disrespectful in its own right. He has no right to complain or say anything about being disrespected even though Mike knew he was calling Pete and still offered him an extension to stay. Good bye GeNOOO

Anyone can FEEL disrespected. I could make 60 billion dollars a year and set some line that some person doesn't meet and feel disrespected.
That doesn't make it actually true.
Geno thinks he is worthy of top tier QB pay and multi year commitments despite being mid tier in play and getting pretty old for football.
Therefore JS disrespected him. Ok I guess the ENTIRE LEAGUE disrespected him a whole lot more because what he got from JS WAS BETTER THAN WHAT ANY OTHER TEAM OFFERED!

He was, and is an immature dude. That's why he has to call Pete to calm him down apparently.
If it wasn't for Pete being hired in Vegas no one else in the league would have met his contract demands.

That's why for me it's. BYE FELICIA!!
You will not be missed.

I got fired from a job for asking for a raise once. I was good at the job too but I was young and dumb and made demands and it led to parting ways. But it all worked itself out

I think Geno would’ve done quite well under Kubiak. Possibly better than Darnold?

But even as a guy that loves Geno’s story, I think he wanted too much for what he’s produced.

Obviously there’s the O-line…how can we really judge the effect on his game consider we’re next to last (PFF) in O-line rankings? Geno in the Red Zone sucked but otherwise, he throws an accurate ball.

I don’t think he chose his words carefully. PC was a major part of Geno’s revival but, it was the SEAHAWKS who resurrected his career.

Imo, it was he who disrespected the team without giving a counter-offer. Contract negotiations aren’t ’disrespect’…they’re part of the process.

As I’ve matured, I can honestly say now that I wish PC, Geno, and DK success (unless they’re playing us).

Had this been ET flipping the bird timeframe, I would’ve thought “F U 2”.
