They must really, really like the guys they already have.

🤮
I like the young guards on the roster too but that doesn't mean you stop adding talent.

Also, adding another third or fourth round guard isn't going to move the needle that much. Laumea and Haynes will have at least one year of NFL weight training and coaching under their belt compared to a rookie. How likely is a rookie drafted in the third or fourth round beating out either one? Lets be real.

You are basically saying we sink or swim with these guys.

Truthfully you want a rookie to walk in and take the job day one then JS has to aim higher in the NFL draft aka 2nd round at the very least.

We should just assume he's not going to do sh*t in FA and is going to try and Draft his way out of this mess at OL.
Thing is, there isn’t much left in the cupboard at OG just a Week in FA. Not getting Fries or one of the other two has pretty much sealed the reality that there will need to be a focus on interior OLinemen in the draft. At this stage which of any FA is worth trying to sign?

Unless there is trade the draft is the best chance of an eventual solution.

He will not overpay when he has guys that have a chance to develop if coached up. We need O line but we also need CB's, TE's, LB's and Safety depth.
Yeah I'd rather not overpay for average/decent and injured Oline players when we have several young guys that might excel with a new scheme and Oline coach.

Can't judge Bradford and Haynes when they had Huff and Grubb setting them up for failure. Even if they look just average that's probably better than having a good guard with injury questions soaking up cap space

If you’re in a pass happy offense and don’t give the defense any resemblance of running the ball, you’re setting the OL up for failure, which is what Grubb did. Consistently in shotgun, and the OL on their heels all year instead of being aggressive taking it to the DL to set up the pass. It doesn’t work in NFL.

No need to handicap yourself, financially, and overpay for bums. Draft well, and hire good coaches to prepare them. Overpaying someone in free agency doesn't mean they'll come in and be an All-Pro caliber player. Have trust in your staff to get the best out of the youngsters you have under contract.

I believe we wouldn't need to be having this discussion if the previous coaching staff was competent enough to work positively with Bradford, Haynes, and Laumea last year.

I don't disagree but you need some level of talent to go along with better run blocking and scheme design.

Best case scenario the Seahawks OL gels and they become an NFL average unit. Some would be happy with that but I wouldn't. Why? Because if you look at the NFC rosters lets compare.

These are the 2025 NFC playoff teams and their pre draft projected OL line ups. Bolded players are new 2025 additions.

Commanders: L. Tunsil, N. Algretti, T. Bladasz, T. Cosmi, A. Willie
Lions: T. Decker, G. Glasgow, F. Ragnow, C. Mahogany, P. Sewel.
Eagles: J. Mailata, L, Dickerson, C. Jurgens, T. Steen, L. Johnson
Vikings: C. Darrisaw, B. Brandel, R. Kelly, W. Fries, B. O'Neil
Rams: A. Jackson, S. Avila, B. Limmer, K. Dotson, R. Harvenstein
Bucs: T. Wirfs, B. Bredeson, G. Barton, C. Mauch, L. Goedeke
Packers: R. Walker, A. Banks, E. Jenkins, S. Rhyan, Z. Tom

No one is saying these OL units are perfect but the Seahawks are nowhere on the level of some these OLs. Also many of these teams may draft OL in the 2025 draft that may push some of these players in backup roles. That level of depth the Seahawks could only dream of for their offensive line.

Schneider Line:

C. Cross - C. Haynes - O. Olu - A. Bradford - A. Lucas (CHOAL)

Our starters are set, but open to some vetmin backups.

IMO Haynes is going to develop into a good guard. Laumea shows promise as well. Bradford looks like back up material.

I'm hoping Kubiak and crew came in - looked at film of what we already had - and decided they could make a serviceable line out of the pieces. I'm hoping Grubb et al were just so awful that a coaching upgrade can have us be just ACCEPTABLE or DECENT.

Probably a pipe dream - but throw me a bone.

This team is, for the most part, built to win now. That's what makes these question marks along the O line so frustrating. We've all seen time and time again where dumpster diving gets us. Relying on rookies along the IOL is not ideal for a team trying to win now.
Timeless, unchallenged wisdom... oops, well, there was that year when 7th Rounder Michael Bowie and UDFA Alvin Bailey, two rookies who were tackles in college made the team. Bailey in particular got plenty of snaps. It wasn't ideal, but the team managed to win anyway. All the way to winning SB48. Yeah, that was 2013.

Yeah, so that 2013 year was an outlier, as the Hawks also had Peak Russell, Peak Beastmode, and that amazing defense. The dumpster diving for OL has been less than remarkable since then, with guys like Luke Joeckl, among others, not exactly shining. Maybe this will be the year that Sataoa Loumea, though not a rookie anymore, emerges as a force. Let's hope the Hawks have some good luck and get good play from vets, young guys, and rookies in the new scheme and with new coaches.

That is my projection as well but that is going to take time and JS doesn't have time on his side as many of the rookie contracts are starting to come up when he made the philosophical change with the draft a few years ago.
