Excellent job as usual, Em. What do you feel the absence of Harvin will have upon the Hawks? Will it be at all significant?

Em, generally gtood analysis, but Lane and Maxwell are nearly as good as Thurman and Browner, and I don't think you are giving enough credit to Home field both environementally and weatherwise.

Weather will not be an issue at all.

I believe you are dead wrong about that. Wet and cold (under 40 degrees) will likely be an issue. IIRC Brees is 2-6 under such conditions.

Excellent job as usual Em. I disagree with your pick ... but good analysis.

The one thing I would point out (and it seems a lot of people around the country have overlooked) is that the Saints are down in the secondary as well. Everyone focuses on the Hawks being without Browner (we've been without him since the Atlanta Game) and Thurmond ... but it seems like no one is talking about the fact that the Saints don't have Jabari Greer anymore. How will Greer's absence affect the Saints? That's a good question as well.

Basically, their defense is not as good as ours. Basically, our offense is hitting it's stride, and we are a pissed off group of men hellbent on showing the world we are for real. Playing at home, unbeaten since 2011.....

Wrong on this one Em.

36 degrees is not that cold and there is very little chance at all of any precipitation. The biggest affect from bad weather on a passing game is the wind. That is a total non-factor tonight with max winds of 5 mph being forecast.

36 degrees is under forty and if it's raining it will feel a LOT colder. Trust me, I know this from experience. Also rain can be a big factor and the QB with the bigger hands and the team with the better running game has the advantage in rain. That's Seattle in both cases.

Getting Roman Harper back for the second game since week one is far more important than the loss of Greer. Harper's presence lessens the importance of the CB as they prefer the three safety sets. Corey White, a much more physical presence that Greer, can now play full-time as opposed to coming in only in the nickel.

Check the forecast. Hardly any chance of rain during the game -20% changing to 0% during the game. Once again, if you feel like you need nature to assist then you are in trouble to begin with.

We'll see. I am confident Seattle will win regardless of the weather. The weather simply makes me more confident. If the Jets were a bad matchup for the Saints on the road (and they were), Seattle is far more so. That fact doesn't go away.

So, a Saints fan is telling us that weather won't be a factor. Keep telling yourself that. We've heard opposing fans say that plenty of times. The Weather WILL be a factor. But, more important, the Hawks running game will pound the rock all day long. The noise WILL be a factor as well. Also, RW has never lost a home game.

Brees is a top flight QB and he knows what it is like playing in Seattle. They faced a 7-9 team that year. This years team has a few less losses because it is WAY better. I think the elements are an afterthought.

On the Seahawks side, a big key for sure is how Byron Maxwell and Jeremy Lane end up playing. What can't be stressed enough is that with the Seahawks back-up CB's -- their back-ups are the equivalent of many teams' 1st string guys. They are that deep. Maxwell is a very physical corner who played very well against Roddy White in the Atlanta game ... and Lane (in the slot now) is nearly the equivalent of Thurmond as a slot CB. He's very quick and physical to boot. Sherman, Maxwell, and Lane were the CB's in Seattle's 42-13 victory over the 49ers last year. Now while it could certainly be argued that Kaepernick is no Brees (obviously he's not nearly in that camp) ... at the same time, Seattle didn't have NEARLY the pass rush last year that they do this year. The Hawks have pass rushers coming out of their ears (Bennett, Clemons, Irvin, Avril, etc.). That's also going to affect the Saints passing game as well, so it should be an interesting matchup for sure tonight.

Correction - Wilson has not lost a home game to date. There will ALWAYS be a first and the Saints have made it a habit of breaking "trends" with Payton and Brees.

Yup, both of these teams are far different from that season. The Saints are much, much better, as are the Seahawks. That 2010 match-up has virtually no relevance to what will happen tonight.

I don't think weather is going to make much of a difference. The Saints score a little less on the road than they do at home, but I think a bigger element is that the Saints D tends to force more turnovers at home.

At home, their turnover difference is +5.

On the road, they're sitting at -1.

The Seahawks are +6 at home, so I'm thinking the turnover battle is going to be one of the biggest factors in this game.

I honestly welcome 5 WR sets, that means there is no screen game and we can pin back our ears and get after Brees.
