Since we are talking about next year's offense, I wonder if they will try and work on the gadget plays with Milroe in camp. Those went horribly wrong last year until they got shelved.
Carrying three quarterbacks on the active roster is not the league norm and the Seahawks were lucky that their weekly injury status never reached a point where Milroe's intermittent inclusion on the active roster didn't create a discernable hardship relative to depth. I don't suspect that the team wants to keep that type of arrangement forever. At some point, Milroe is going to have to dislodge Drew Lock from the roster and that might be the best thing that could happen to Lock because Lock's best career scenario is that he becomes perceived as potentially the next Sam Darnold. A change of scenery might do him good.
I think that Milroe has the remaining duration of his rookie contract to demonstrate consistent progress and prove himself worthy of an extension. He really needs to begin by demonstrating basic operational characteristics as they were seriously lacking last off season. Getting the play called, getting the team correctly lined up, surveying the defense, calling the pre snap adjustments, and finishing with commanding the regroup into the next huddle. This is what we need to see before we can actually discuss any other aspect of his game. He just needs to look comfortable with the basic operations first.
I have to say that I was slightly disappointed because Milroe didn't seem to progress past this point last off season, but he is a project, and every quarterback develops at a different pace. He is such an extraordinary athlete that we must be very patient with his development.
