I found this on one of the auction sites. It's obviously a knock off, very poor one at that.
Look how cheesy the embroidered patch looks.

That's the kind of slap in the face to 12's that really ticks me off. Really NFL?

Anyone know much about 3d printing. Anyone know if the images posted in this thread are the highest resolution there are.

I might buy a discounted broncos hat with the actual patch so I can have a sample.

I just tweeted to PC to see if he can get this going for the 12s, I can't imagine why we can't find Super bowl merchandise, jerseys with patch in them.

Aros. This is an obvious knock off. I'd bet money the NFL had nothing to do with it. I only posted it as an example of how an embroidered patch can look after a few washings.

EVERYONE! I have just had a creative breakthrough!!! I think i have seriously figured out how to make these now! The main problem I saw was the fact that there is some fine fine black detailing in the midst of the chrome, making it virtually impossible to get the black stuff right and still get a good chrome finish:

BeilWA1CEAEHlL9

But today i realized it: If the material (rubber or thin sheets of acryllic) is BLACK (as in solid black all the way through and not just a black finish, it can be done in the laser cutter:

First i would vector cut all of the ridges for the chrome parts. Then i would spray the entire sheet with chrome paint. After the paint dries, i would rasterize the black parts so that it precision destroys the paint on those exact spots, leaving the underlying black material visible only on the parts supposed to be black. Lastly i would vector cut tiny holes in the edges (to enable sewing) and then vector cut around the patch. Since the material is already black, the edge of the patch will be black just like the real one.

Im going too try to make time for a tiny sample of this method (just to show what i mean and see if it works the way i hope) and hopefully post it here later today :)

that was why i was asking if people knew about 3D printing? i wonder if you had someone do a high resolution 3D scan of the patch on the hat posted up thread, have it expanded in size and then 3D printed?

i am not a techical person so have no idea but i would be bothered by having to "replicate" this and potentially run affoul of the NFL when i would gladly pay them to make it....which is why it bothers me so much that they can not make a bunch of plastic patches.

its important to also look at that patch but with the game one in tandam since it looks like the stadium and NYC buildings are a matt grey.

I think the parts that are greyish rubber on the real patch would have to be chrome on mine, otherwise it would be to tricky to make. Good news though, i managed to sneak away to the lazer cutter today, and the idea i had totally works! I will post a pic when i get home.

Ofcourse it will never look as good as the real one, but it might quite possibly look better than the cheaper chroma flex one that pmedic posted, for a muuuuuuuuuuuuch lower price than a 100$ jersey.

I'm part of a very large movie prop makers resource group.

Yes the guys who work for MAJOR motion pictures we have all paid to see in the theaters and also shows that test well known Myths. These guys are brilliant and talented from everything to just using their hands up to and beyond 3D printing.

I've put out a few feelers.

I'll update as I have info.

If you are able to recreate with good quality, I'd be more than happy to buy a few from you for a reasonable price of course :).

Be my guess that further talk on this should be done via PM. PLEASE keep me in the loop.

Hey Sweedish,

If you are able to replicate the patch I would love to purchase one from you (or a few depending on how much trouble it is for you to make). I appreciate the effort you are putting into this!

Brian

Ditto. Id take 3
