With the Chargers getting the first Fair catch free kick since the Seahawk inaugeral season it got me wondering whether kickers actually practise such kicks of just rely on if they take one their their practice of Kick-offs and field goals will see them through.

Was Dicker even aware of the rule it certainly looked as if a lot of the staff didn't with the Offense initially going out?

I'm still befuddled as to why the free kick was allowed. The clock had expired. The game can be extended if there's a defensive penalty but how is the punting team considered to be the defense? The foul occurred before the change of possession.

...whatever. The offense should have used up more time on 3rd down. There shouldn't have been 8 seconds remaining, which then required the Broncos to punt.

The half can not end on a defensive penalty that is why the Chargers were given on last play

The argument is at the time of the foul the Bronco's were the offensive team though I am not sure how the rules define defence and offence in such situations. It certainly makes sense if the team committing the penalty will be defence on the next play there should be an untimes play but I do not know whetheer the rules are actually written that way (though given Thursday night's game I assume they are)

I heard Luke Willson talking about how Pete Carroll constantly brought up the fair catch kick with the team and they practiced for it quite a bit.

He figured Pete must have texted half of the team from those years on Thursday, saying "see, that could have been us!!"
