Wonder if there's any kind of deal in the work? Seems like might get a little bit of a deal the earlier you do it but at the same time i'm sure it would have already gotten worked out if they were gonna do it.

So you are in favour of gambling that Reed does poorly this year and we can get him on for a lower rate if we don't sign him now. And if he goes off with Donald type numbers?

It's been my impression that contracts just get pricier over time. If Reed is a strong force in the locker room, a guy that's all in on our program, I'd probably be working on a deal ASAP. I think the chance of him getting cheaper is far lower than the chance of him getting more expensive.

I'm just glad we signed Russell before Goff. Drove Goff's price up and makes our choice look so much better.

Wouldn't you rather have Clowney than Reed? Its better to just wait until the end of the season to judge who to keep.

Sign both and trade one like we did to Clark.

I'd rather have both and think it's doable.

He's progressed ever year so far, sure he might take a step back but even if he's close to last year he'll be spendy.

So your in favor of getting out the checkbook now ? What if his 10 1/2 sacks last year was a once in a career stat ? They will wait and see . IMO

There are always intangibles that factor in on who is extended and who moves on.

It's includes leadership traits that may not be as visible as athletic traits. We have seen extensions for KJ Wright and Kam Chancellor that somehow surprised a lot of fans. While also seeing exceptional athletes move on to cash in on higher bids elsewhere.

There remains plenty of season left to come to an enhanced understanding of who Jarran Reed is. His evolving maturity has been a pleasure to watch. I'm looking forward to witnessing the finish to his audition for extending his leadership role. Should be a good story.

How he comes back from a 6 game suspension in terms of playing shape, mentality, and leadership will tell us a lot about his future with or without this team.
