I'm not sure how anyone can choose between one of these options. I'm really excited but also really concerned.

The D should see a huge improvement. But MMac had a really slow start when he began as DC in Baltimore tough scheme to implement.
The O could blow up with difference makers in every skill position. But, we've seen what a porous OLine does and we have no idea about the Right side.
New coaching staff everywhere with cool ideas and history of success. But, they've never worked together and we know the success rate of new HC's in the NFL is about 50% even when they bring guys they know well.
The ILBs were ID'd by MMac to install his system and are probably both a step up (in different ways) from both ILBs of '23. But both ILBs have yet to practice...injury recovery.
Most of the Seahawks best players are young up-and-comers ready to break out. But even young players that are great often have slump years.
Geno is looking really good and seems to really fit the new scheme. Geno's production declined some last year and he could have already peaked in '22.
It seems like every position group is either obviously, or at least arguably, better than '23. But, take out one player to injury and most groups are significantly worse than '23.

Should we be excited about the defense or concerned about our quarterbacks?

Explanation from the head coach ........... "It's a passing camp," he said. "When you're playing pass all the time, there's no threat of the ball just splitting the defense right down the middle. We're working all of our coverages, all the things, the disguises with there's a penalty if you're wrong. You get into games, there's a threat of a run coming right downhill, it just changes things.

Neither. The team is installing a brand new offense with new terminology, and there are bound to be wrong routes, QB misreads, missed blocking assignments leading to rushed throws, etc. I know that the defense is also new, but lots of picks happen from offensive mistakes, like throwing to the wrong spot. Even a confused defender in the vicinity of the bad throw can make a pick.

If we're still seeing this when the 2nd preseason game rolls around, I'll be concerned about the offense (though not necessarily QBs, as it all depends on whether the receiver was doing the right thing).
This... and my understanding is that it was very windy this day in particular.

Nothing changes with this crowd. The season is a marathon, and we are making assessments based upon a "pad less" second practice. Last year it was the PFF grades for the first preseason game. It really reveals the general level of message board football acumen.

I’m most excited to see Byron Murphy. He should be strong contender for Defensive Rookie of the Year. I’m also excited to see JSN have a breakout year.

Otherwise, I just want to see some forward progress this season.

Here and there
My excitement is the forthcoming changes with MM and his new coaching styles and to see what his new coaching staff can accomplish. As far as any expectations, I always want my team to be on the winning side of any games, but I know that this team is yet untested and with hearing that there are still several players not yet 100%, this part, if any, leaves me a bit concerned. I'm not expecting a post season type team, even with all of the talent we have at our disposal, but I'm hoping for successful season and hope that we can make it to the postseason with many great memories to come.

Interesting. I had to read twice to fully absorb what you are saying.
Id never considered the amount of time it will take for the defense to get comfortable with the new defense and the bumps along the way.

I am always anxious for the season to start, excitement or concern happens usually after the first half of a real game, pre season has you waiting in anticipation of what really is going to happen and makes you fall in love with the guy that looks to be beating the odds.
