Eliminate kickoffs rather than ban headshots on runner?

If the NFL is serious about reducing or eliminating concussions in the NFL, it seems strange that they allow head shots on a runner in possession of the ball.

When the anti-kickoff talk started, my first thought was, "Why eliminate the kickoff when you can just ban head shots on runners?" Seems that would prevent a great deal more concussions.

Maybe Goodell really isn't all that concerned about concussions.

You're absolutely correct, he's more concerned about the appearance of him being concerned about concussions. If he were really serious he'd make mouth guards mandatory which help serve as a shock-absorber for your head/mouth/jaw and actually will help prevent concussions if worn.

Headshots on the runner are hard to avoid, because many runners drop their head and barrel into would-be tacklers.

Eliminate the kickoff ?

People make it on the team because of their play during that aspect of the game.

Headshot are going to happen ,most are unintentional ...ie.head snap forward.

Are more concussed players during other parts of the game this year actually.
