Hmm, apparently it's $5,700 per week during the season for a practice squad player; the minimum. $91,000/year for being a practice squad player for a whole season, assuming you don't get paid (which you probably do) for preseason games.

When it rains, it pours. How does an on-again, off-again practice squad player even have enough money to get drunk in the first place?

I know right. How much money do they make anyways?

seventy grand?

I was getting kind of tired of all the good news. When too many get all giddy and overconfident, I get worried. Keep your meds handy.

Seriously? I know its Josh Portis, but still, I do not like seeing our guys constantly getting into trouble.

Lol. . . Really? Not the practice squad qb! Whoever will wwe find to emulate kaepernicks bicep kissing on the scout team?!

Was referring to the negative publicity that your team suddenly seems to be surrounded by.

At this point if a Seahawk player is caught jaywalking it would probably be taken out of proportion by the media.

Know what? I hope it continues.

The Seahawks had the media fawning all over them during the early parts of the offseason, leading into FA and the draft. If there was any chance of the team getting too high on itself, there was certainly a fertile environment for it.

Now, there's plenty of negative press on the team, and that's going to do 2 things:

1. Knock the team down a bit off of Cloud 9 and make it realize that all the kudos and accolades can be short-lived.
2. Put the team in more of an under siege mentality. It's going to foster more of an "us-against-the-world" view in the locker room... The bonding and shared goals in that type of environment tend to result in improved performance/cohesion.

Now, I don't mean to imply that I hope another Seahawk player gets popped for PEDs or we lose any more players to suspensions/injuries for any reason... but I'd be just fine if all that negative press hung around a bit and people kept calling the team cheaters and arrogant jerks and whatever else. Keep it up, NFL, talking heads, and internet haters. Put a bigger chip on these guys' shoulders. Please.

Why would he be going to Canada when he's gonna be chillin in the QB room with Russell all season? You're a weird one, J.

YAWN.... spin it how ever you like... the more dumb shit this team does, the faster it will grow up in the long run. Every guy who gets in trouble is only tightening the leash.

And honestly none of it really matters, or what i'm trying to say, and I speak for myself, that I DON'T CARE, unless there is something negative on a Team Leader... it doesn't matter.

Josh Portis is a fringe roster practice squad player, he has a fan following here, but out of the 3 Seahawks QBs behind Russell Wilson, I felt he was the least valuable.

Everyone needs to stop acting like the Seahawks, are the only team in the League who have players doing dumb things.

I'll would take minuscule things (in comparison to the other stuff they could get in trouble for)like Irvin, Guy, Browner p.e.d suspensions + Portis dui vs all the publically dumb stance Chris Culliver says.

Again, none of those guys are leaders of this team... until that happens... I really don't care.

Not sure how much you can put on Pete's shoulders. I guess Marvin Lewis was complicit with all the Bengals arrests due to him buying in to the players brought on-board by the FO/Brown. Same with Detroit's HC and GM getting a lot of negative press because of all the Lions issues the past few years. So Pete and John are not above reproach, since they brought all these players in.

If this team has a Detroit Lions type regression like last year, I suspect things will be highly charged around here like the old QB debates. Will be disappointing to me to read the type of insider info about the Seahawks that were anonymously attributed to the Lions locker room and player acquisitions. I am sure though that it can be explained away.

Off topic, and not to single you out, but why am I suddenly seeing "just win baby" everywhere on this board? I mean, I guess I kinda understand why, but..........the Raiders.

I hate the Raiders. :thraidersux:

The problem here isn't that Portis got a DUI, it is that way too many of our players are getting into trouble of any kind. This is what you fear when you hire a Pete Carroll. OTA's this week is a major opportunity for him to impact this. He has to take a hard line, otherwise it is only going to get worse.

Hard to say anything positive about this, but it really is an opportunity for Pete to change the dialog and begin to establish some sort of accountabiliy with the players. It starts with Pete though. He himself has to change.

Thanks for being classy and not getting baited when you were just making your own personal observations as a fan in general. I mean it's one thing if someone comes on and is all like "what a dirtbag, I knew you seahags couldn't keep it together, etc ,etc" and just talking all kinds of smack all over the place. People complain about classless fans from other teams coming to this site, but we get fans like yourself that are not really being belligerent or stirring up the pot and being very irritating in general about anything and everything and you got potshotted just for making a general comment. I am not even a Seattle or even Washington born Seahawks fan, but I am just as hardcore a fan of them as anyone else out there and don't see the need to just automatically flame another poster just because they are a 49'er or other hated team fan just for being a fan of that team.

How is a coach of 90+ players in any way responsible to monitor all of his players actions 24/7 on AND off the field? How many of us have told young kids (often many times) not to do something and they go ahead and do it anyway? Short of hiring private investigators to follow every player where ever they go, it's impossible to monitor these young kids with pockets full of money and a heightened sense of entitlement from being in the NFL.

IMO, PC's departure from USC was only due to two major details, (1) The fact that he was offered another NFL gig with complete team control (which must be a coaches dream) by Paul Allen.
(2) The NCAA seemed to think that coaches should not only control the lives of 100% of their athletes, but 100% of all of the athletes families as well. Which is an impossible task.
