Now that the official contract details are out this gets a tentative thumbs up from me.

This feels like too much money for a situational pass rusher, but the Hawks clearly see potential for him to play a larger role than that. As discussed elsewhere, PFF grades are not actually how good a player is at something and more about how effective they have looked at that task given the scheme/teammates/situation surrounding them. Jones has the length and leverage to be solid against the run and he was only 25 in his previous season so this feels like a decent bet from the Hawks perspective.

The other factor is that we've been starved for interior pass rush for years now, so getting a legitimately good interior pass rusher for once is probably worth paying a bit of a premium for.

He hasn’t played inside since his rookie year. He’s been a De for the last 2+ years. Our run D was awful last year and this signing won’t help that. Way too much money for a 3-4 DE that likely won’t be a 3 down guy

He did play some DT last year. And defensive lineman that can be disruptive make more money than defensive lineman that are good against the run. Oh, and yes he is a 3 down guy.

Jones can win 1v1 with ease, so people are going to be in a treat when watching him play.
