Draft is Gonna be Interesting

Schneider's first draft with the Hawks was in 2010. In 2 of the 16 subsequent drafts (2014 and 2017), he traded down, out of the first round. In 3 of these 16 drafts, he traded his first round pick for a player, before the draft.

I'm not sure what kind of inference we can draw, regarding his propensity for trading down. Being said, this is certainly the kind of setup that would lead one to trade down.

I think they deal our 1st for a mid-2d and a 3d or 4th. All the angst about our RB room is a bit overblown IMO. JS seems pretty confident in our RB room. Maybe that's fronting to mislead the competition, but I don't think so. Even in the DB room, we have starters all around. What we need is depth and developmental guys, not necessarily starters. You always need pass rushers, but again I think we're looking more for depth/rotation and developmental guys.

To clarify, I’m not down on our current RB group. I think we can make it work as is, but we’re missing a more dynamic presence. At edge and CB, the key question is whether this draft class actually offers someone better than what we already have. From an athletic profile standpoint, I’m not seeing prospects with RAS scores comparable to Pritchett or O’Toole, both of whom are elite. Ivey also flashed in pre-season, and while his RAS isn’t at that same level, he brings the violent, physical, aggressive style MM emphasizes.

Based on what I’ve seen from credible draft analysts like Jeremiah and McShay, this class has more depth than usual in the 30–100 range, and the talent gaps across that tier are relatively small. That creates a viable case to trade down, which I’d be comfortable with.

If we stay at 32, I agree with glenwo2 that Price as BPA makes sense and would add a dynamic runner to a decent room, but missing that dimension.

This isn’t to say edge or CB aren’t needs, but if you can get comparable talent in rounds 2 and 3 while securing a day one RB at 32, it makes sense.

As for OG, it's considered a weak class overall and doubtful you will get anyone to compete with our current roster. ILB is the wildcard as we have 3 starter talent players and decent PS depth, but it's still a strength of this class.

I think the one thing I feel most confident in saying after yesterday's transactions is we will not be taking a WR with any of our 4 picks.
