Only Paul Allen can force any changes because Pete has the final say over JS when it comes to football ops as per his original hiring.
This line of thinking could be dangerous as the Packets GM position that JS has alawys coveted and consistently maintained an out of here clause in each of his deals here to allow him to go after could get exercised and the era here would clearly be done. Pete needs to carefully consider his position.
Chopping Bevell may or may not happen, maybe he might go elsewhere on his own. I’d prefer that Cable was gone first I don’ t care where either. To me it seems that he certainly has failed to achieve most every objective he’s been charged with and worse still has wasted significant resources while failing. The OLine sucked when he took over, has continued to be consistently weak, and was worse than ever before this season. Cable is also in charge of the running game as the “Running Game Coordinator” he’s failed there and this season kept a genuine dud in Lacy and got rid of Anthony Collins who clearly succeeded significantly in another scheme, so did Tony Ware, who was also not good enough yet became a force to reckon with in KC. He was behind the release of Coach Sherman Smith who he was apparently unable to work with,. He seemingly has wrecked Rawls who’s confidence is shattered and although healthy again was unable to do anything this season and seems likely done here when he arrived with so much potential.
There’s a pattern here, the OLine clearly is not working despite a serious allocation of resources to trying to fix it over his tenure. It’s broken and has been for many seasons. He has picked OGs to play T and failed to recognize talent while seemingly failing to settle on a consistent group. He apparently doesn’t know how to fix it and it is the principal weakness of the O. His work as a supposed OLine guru has been an abject failure for the team.
The running game worked when the team had a generational RB in Lynch but hasn’t since he left. Even when Lynch was here the opposing D usually initiated contact with him in our backfield but the strength of Lynch and his inability to be tackled. Lynch often got pushed forward at times but he not the OLine was the reason for the success of the running game. Somehow Cable got reflected credit when true criticism was more appropriate and lots came from this site. Now the running game is so broken that opposing DCs don’t even key on stopping it b/c it is broken. He was given resources amply to fix it, but failed. Time to replace him, time to change direction, time for Cable to be gone. He has failed to achieve any material objectives.
Just because i’m focused upon Cable being moved out doesn’t mean I want to keep Bevelll, I think he struggles to use his talent well, and never used Graham to his maximum. He has become quite predictable and doesn’t adjust well or quickly when faced with adversity. He has blamed players when failure has happened and his post XLIX presser was disgraceful as he failed to shoulder any blame for ‘the call’ that galactically stupid call when Lynch had just gained 3 against their big DL and the team had 2 time outs to burn. That call should have got his dumb ass fired, everyone else wore blame but Bevell. Even then reluctantly iD give him a year i/c of the whole O w/o Cable to see if it was Cable that was holding him back. At least the OLine might have a shot of being partially competent.
Some major changes need to happen.
