Just curious, because it seems that another poster brought them up yesterday. Looks like the Hawks suffered through a midseason slump, but caught fire over the course of the final 5 games that year. Ya'll were blowing teams out left and right. I can't believe that 10-6 wasn't good enough to at least snag a wildcard spot...I'm thinking that ya'll might have gone to the Super Bowl that year. Denver as the AFC rep in Super Bowl XXI and ya'll blew them out in the final game of the regular season, 41-16!!! So does anyone else remember that season? Have any memories from it? :179422: :0190l:

Of course I do. That was the year the Hawks smoked Dallas on Turkey day, right? Krieg started the scoring running one in off a bootleg, then Curt Warner, went all Warner, to seal it in the 4thl.

you are correct, sir! The Hawks routed Dallas in Big D by the final tally of 31-14!!! :141847_bnono: Good to see that I am not the only guy who remembers the mid 80's Hawks!

It was the first team to beat both SB participants within same season. I'm sure thats happened since though.

I think the next year the Hawks wen't 8-8, with an anomoly of; win 2 then lose 2 streak for the entire season.

Hell yes, I remember! Biggest shoulda woulda coulda season I can remember. Sometimes it's not about "how you finish". Sometimes it's about how you start, or in this case, how you do in the middle. Seattle was far and away the hottest team at the end of the season, and had beaten both Superbowl participants in the regular season, including 4 interceptions against the Giants.

A 10-6 team could easily miss the playoffs this upcoming season. Please Pete, start, sustain and finish well!!! Also would have helped in the Atlanta playoff game last season. Oh the shoulda woulda coulda's have stacked a mile high with this team...

That team would have gone to the bowl and had a change of winning it if they pnly made the playoffs. I think they lost by a tiebreaker to the Chiefs to make the playoffs. Absolutely destroyed the Broncos the last game of the season. I remember being so pissed that they were left behind.

damn you guys are right! I didn't even realize that the Hawks defeated the Giants earlier on in the year! You guys had a 4-game losing streak right in the middle of the season which really KILLED you that year. You guys could have really made some noise in the playoffs that year. What in the heck happened during that 4 game losing streak?! You guys got blown out in just about every one of those 4 losses, so it's not like you lost a bunch of close games...were you guys missing a key player or two during that losing streak? Why did the wheels fall off the wagon in October, 1986? Anyone remember?

Kreig was hurt,we had road games at KC & Denver (where we almost never won a game) and we turned the ball over like it was on fire. I vividly remember my dad getting in a pissing match with some mouthy Denver fans about them going on to the playoffs and us not on the walk to FX McCrorys for our end of the season dinner. Man I miss the AFC west days sometimes. Denver and Raider fans were real pricks back in those days and it was always entertaining to say the least. Thanks for the walk down memory lane 46, good luck to you and your Bears this year and hope you find a QB someday that isn't a headcase loser with a big arm. GO HAWKS!

Penihawk, did you dad almost get into it with the Denver fans or was it just a case of good-natured ribbing? Were there a lot of Broncos fans living in the Seattle/Tacoma area back in the day?

No it was just some good old fashioned shyt talking by a couple of the orange mob that always came up from Denver. It was just a pissing match of words but I still remember that game none the less. Like I said, Bronco and Raider fans were real pricks in those days and they traveled with their teams a lot. I disagree with some tho, that team would of lost on the road in the playoffs IMO.

Absolutely were firing on all cylinders at the end of the season.....killed the Donkeys by like 30+ in the last regular season game (without looking it up....lazy LOL) and Denver went to the SB. Would've been a tough one vs. the Midgets in the SB but I think the Hawks would've won it. Some folks think this team was better than the team that went to *XL. Maybe, maybe not but they were at that level by the end of that season.

Oh, and I turned 30 in October of that season. Sigh.

I'm too young to remember that season, but seeing a 30-0 win over the Steelers is funny.
