Did We Finish #1 Defense?

With only three lousy points scored by the 9ers, does that mean we finish #1 overall on defense? I think so? I heard we were #2 coming into the game. Surely only giving up 3 points could put us at 1 overall?

I get that there are still games to be played today but outside of Houston, what other defense could strip us from that title?

Oh, and, where do they get the Dark Side from?

I can’t remember the exact interview or even who said it, it was asked about comparing this group with the LOB, and what they called themselves.

I fully expected to hear MOB, but nope, “the dark side” was it.

Wish I could remember and find it.

Maybe someone else knows or can find it.

I guess we're full marks for leading the league then because we gave up 3 TD drives of less than 5 yards & 2 more of less than 20 after some brutal turnovers.

My eyes tell me that the Seahawks are the #1 defense in the NFL. They have peaked at the right time too. Of the playoff teams, the Eagles are probably the next best defense right now.

Funny, of all the stats the only one really important to me is scoring. Winning games being the ultimate goal means stopping teams from scoring more points than your team is all that really matters...who cares how many yards other teams have if they don't score on all those drives? That's why whenever somebody complains about us giving up 500 yards to a team that loses the game after kicking a couple fieldgoals I kinda just think whateva.

Whiile that is true stopping opponents scoring points also depends on the offence and special teams. If the offence are comitting a tot of turnovers giving the opposition the ball in the Red zone (or conceding pick 6s) then we will concede more points, if the offence dominate have an effective run game so they eat up the clock the defence face less drives and therefore can be expected to concede less points. If we score from every kick off and punt return the defence never get on the field so they concede 0 points regardless of how good they are.

With the amount of turnovers we have conceded to be number 1 in points conceded does imoy our defence is the best but with the amount we have run the ball I would expect we have had less drives than most teams (leading to lower scoring games all other things being equal) but I do not have the stats for that.

And much of the scoring against this defense was during garbage time. The big lead, let up a little, etc.

Best defense in the league and I think there is a decent gap to #2.
