I like it. Our scheme is based on several above average edge guys working in rotation, not on one superstar pass rusher. Hall fits the mold well and is still a young guy.

Hall still has room to grow as well. A year from now that contract is going to look like robbery.

I just looked at the edge players salaries at overthecap.com and Hall's salary would make him the 34th highest paid edge, which is probably about where he is. He was ranked around #35 by PFF and I think he was higher than that for run defense. https://overthecap.com/position/edge-rusher

But he is an ascending player, and hopefully we look back on this deal and think we got a steal.

Here is a comparison between Mafe and Hall's production over the last 2 years, Mafe in 32 games, Hall in 31:

TacklesTackles for lossSacksQB hits
Derick Hall6791033
Boye Mafe7112816

Mafe will be 28 this season, Hall will be 25. I've got to believe that the team made the decision early on that they were going to extend Hall and let Mafe walk. I trust Macdonald's decision that he kept the better player.

I am incredibly happy we were able to get Hall a new deal. I would have been disappointed had we let him test the market in Free Agency after this season.

Hall has all the tools to have a breakout season of double digit sacks. Young, rugged, quick (1.59 10-yard split), and great length (34 1/2 inch arm length).

I found this article interesting. https://www.si.com/nfl/seahawks/ons...rusher-as-their-secret-superstar-01kfhbmhajxt

That was back in January before the NFCCG.

He might be better than a lot of people think. Solid player worthy of resigning.
Good find. This backs up what I was seeing last year. Not a bender type, but tough and relentless. Still young.

"With the depth across Seattle’s defensive front, identifying a single standout was difficult, but Hall fit the bill as a quiet star. He led the Seahawks in pass-rush win rate (16.3%) and pressure rate (16.7%) while earning 70.0-plus PFF grades in both run defense and pass rushing, making him one of the most complete edge defenders on the roster."

Good news. It's nice to have one of those guys signed past this season. Will have some work to do at that position between now and the the start of the '27 season with DLaw, Fowler and Nwosu all signed through just this season.

From spotrac:

His incentives are tied to sacks. Hopefully he earns every dollar!
Good. About time we started moving past this "hits and pressures matter more" business. We're ten years past that. In the age of mobile, slippery QBs, getting the guy on the ground and ending the play is at a premium again.

This was a good re-signing. Outstanding as our DL is, it's old, and not many signed past this season. Hall deserves the money.

Dirty Derick gets the 'stamp' of approval. :sneaky:

The Seahawks now have Hall under contract for 2 years for a total of $19.493M + incentives. The Seahawks have an option to retain him at $10.5M in 2028 and a further option at $14M for 2029.

A $9.7M average is peanuts for a veteran starting DL in this league. Most of the $19.493M is in the 1st year, which would make Hall easy to trade in 2027 if a better option becomes available. Even then he'd be a cheap rotation player in 2027. For reference Spotrac valued Hall at a $12.1M average with their 'market value'. This deal is significantly below that.

Not sure I like the Dirty Derick nickname. Maybe "Truck Stop" (since he likes big creating big lifted trucks).

The team friendly deal that the Seahawks gave Hall, for me, makes the contract the Seahawks gave Rashid Shaheed much more palatable.
