I haven't had the opportunity to come on here in the past few days. After such a bad loss, I like to let things sink in a little. Looking back at the game, my first thoughts proved true in that the run-first offense and RW didn't lose us this game. Sure, they may have been factors, but our game plan did what it was supposed to do in controlling the clock and opening up big plays. The biggest thing that kept us from winning the game in the fourth quarter were penalties and the defense not stopping a 3rd and 15. According to the drive summaries, after the big INT in the end-zone in the 4th quarter, penalties kept us from taking advantage of that turnover.
1st & 10 at SEA 20
(9:33 - 4th) R.Wilson pass short left to N.Vannett to SEA 26 for 6 yards (L.Vander Esch; C.Awuzie). PENALTY on SEA-J.Britt, Offensive Holding, 10 yards, enforced at SEA 20 - No Play.
1st & 20 at SEA 10
(9:06 - 4th) (Shotgun) R.Wilson pass short middle to D.Baldwin to SEA 15 for 5 yards (L.Vander Esch). PENALTY on SEA-D.Fluker, Unnecessary Roughness, 7 yards, enforced at SEA 15.
2nd & 22 at SEA 8
(8:40 - 4th) (Shotgun) R.Wilson pass short left to T.Lockett to SEA 10 for 2 yards (A.Brown). SEA-T.Lockett was injured during the play. His return is Questionable.
3rd & 20 at SEA 10
(8:10 - 4th) (Shotgun) R.Wilson pass short left to M.Davis to SEA 23 for 13 yards (X.Woods).
4th & 7 at SEA 23
(7:30 - 4th) (Punt formation) M.Dickson punts 47 yards to DAL 30, Center-T.Ott. C.Beasley to DAL 37 for 7 yards (J.Coleman).
So, instead of facing 2nd and 4, we were pushed back to 1st and 20, then, instead of 2nd and 15, we were pushed back to 2nd and 22. Its hard to dig out of 2nd and 22.
On the next Dallas series, we had two defensive penalties on 3rd down: one on 3rd and 8 from the Dallas 39 (Defensive PI on KJ Wright) and one on 3rd and 4 at the Seattle 49 (Defensive PI on Coleman).
Then, of course, we couldn't stop them on 3rd and 15 when Dak ran it up our gut and we couldn't tackle him. Of course they scored here.
Then, we marched down the field and got a TD and 2-pt conversion. If not for the penalties on offense and the penalties and failure to stop them on 3rd down, we win this game. This loss is not on RW or play-calling, but on these failures.
