I actually didn't know until last night he was taken way after so many bad wr's.. although our guy was the worst of the bunch.

The landscape is such in college football that you really have to be careful taking guys from small conferences. It's sad but true. So much of the talent is concentrated in 3 to 4 conferences and then the level of competition drops precipitously. It's different then it was 20 years ago.

Dee was from the Mid-American conference with powerhouses such as Ball St. and Toledo. I seriously can't imagine how difficult it is to scout some of these guys by trying to extrapolate what you see to weekly top tier opposition.

In the same way JS/PC seemed to evolve away from character issues after draft misfortune, I wonder if guys like Dee (and even LJ Collier out of TCU) will change the draft strategy moving forward. This year for example, we waited all the way to the 6th round before selecting a non power conference player (J. Redd II from the Mountain West).

Zero doubt Dee should not have went number 56 coming out of Western Michigan, but live and learn. That said, we found a pretty good linebacker from a small Mountain West state school a decade or so ago, so who knows.

I agree somewhat with what you posted. However, Tyreek Hill came from West Alabama and is considered a top 5 WR. So there are some exceptions for players coming from small schools.

I do believe that small school guys are generally more successful on the defensive side vs. offense side though. You don't see as much small school guys having success (especially in the skilled positions - QB, RB, and WR).

From watching Eskridge play, he's on the smallish side. He's smaller than Lockett and Lockett is almost DK size compared to Dee. I think the best way to utilize Dee's speed and quickness is to send him on go routes (deep). Running jet sweeps and short screens don't help him because he's getting mauled by bigger players. He's not going to have to contend with those guys past 15-20 yards. Players will be more his size down the field. SF uses Deebo Samuel (who is a bigger WR) for their jet sweeps, etc. Maybe the Seahawks should think about utilizing DK in the same manner (if they want to include those plays in their repertoire).

I don't disagree with you, but Eskridge is 5' 9" 188 lbs. Tyreek Hill is the same size. Everyone's looking for the next Tyreek Hill.

This year, Matt Landers. I just never saw it. He looked more promising as a DB than as a WR.

As I recall ........ the 2021 draft class was devalued via a whole lot of colleges canceling games over the the covid 19 hysteria. Some of the prospective college talent skipped a year. Scouting was incomplete and very sketchy to say the least. Draft picks were not considered as valuable as previous and post covid draft picks. John Schneider said as much.

I don't know why so many have a problem getting over a draft class that suffered from a devalued year of scouting. The 2020 scouting effort and 2021 draft was unlike what we are likely to see with college scouting and NFL drafting again in the foreseeable future.

How about that return to normal 2022 draft class ....... the best yet to come

Eskridge over St. Brown isn't what irked me in that draft. It was Eskridge over Creed Humphrey that got my goat.

On the positive side, at least Dee Eskridge is not Kadarius "hands of stone" Toney. Having hands of stone is a death nail for receivers. I remember Daryl Turner in the 1980s for the Seahawks (strong 1st season) but then he had a issue with drops afterwards and never recovered.

I still have hope for Dee Eskridge. Yes he is going through a suspension but it’s all about opportunities for redemption. It will be a great story if it works out and Pete is special on that department.

You’re partly right. What I would do with him is to tell him to go deep. When he turns around eventually looking for the ball, I’d yell, “no deeper”. I’d keep doing that until he was clearly out of town and no longer a threat to the roster. Kind of like when messing with a kid. You keep saying deeper until they are out of range because you were never going to throw them the ball anyway!
