Okay consider this the last one regarding Game 1 but I just found this interesting.

At least that's what it looked like to me...

Sam Darnold on JSN getting over half the targets on Sunday:

“It just happened to be that way. I’m just going through my progressions, going through my reads and 58% of the time it told me to go to Jax. That's just how it worked out.

"A lot of games are different. Sometimes they’re going to do things to take Jax, take Coop, take some other guys away from us. Other guys gotta be on their P’s and Q’s in terms of being able to beat 1-on-1 coverage. That’s what we’re looking at this week. It’s going to be a fun challenge for us.”

>>> This got my attention. NGL.

Maybe he didn't mean it to sound like that but there it is. 🤷‍♂️

Who else do we have besides JSN? It was funny that some people thought we had a good wr room during the pre season. I thought we should have made a trade for an established wr.

Cooper Kupp is an established wr. Darnold needs to do better in finding other receivers….period. How many targets did Kupp or the other wrs get. Probably could count those on one hand. It’s not enough. This is why not playing Darnold, Kupp, and starters during preseason hurts. Practice is different than games.

He is just telling the truth...sometimes it hurts.
Personally, I hold nothing against JSN's production numbers. That is a good day for the number 1 WR on your team. My issue is the rest of the team should be adding at least that much more. If he has 125 receiving yards and the team matches that is a 250 yard day...not even a 300 yd day. 250 is more like a minimum passing day in my book unless your running game is over 200. So, the real question to me is whats wrong....scheme/play calling, execution, lack of skill players, or the QB.
That said, Darnold had 16 of 23 passing and near 70 percent completion....decent numbers (except for number of attempts in my opinion) so to me he was no where near the biggest issue. I have to agree with CPH on this.

He was highly successful targeting JSN. Now if it was DK that efficiency would have probably been much lower but if it works I'm not sure why we should be complaining about it. It was one game perhaps we should let it play out some. Im betting our run game is much more effective tomorrow. At least I hope so.

I hope im wrong on Kupp, but he isn’t the Kupp that was on LA. I don’t see him as a top WR anymore. More like a solid 4th guy

Not sure I would describe last game as working, in terms of the overall passing game.

I don't care if he only throws to 1 receiver or all of them. Just get the ball down the field and get some points up! We need wins, not stats

Lock is my boy, but here, I am with Darnold! He said the right thing, and it's for the other player to respond and make positive changes.

Some folks got it wrong, yes, even .NET experts sometimes. Kupp was signed to replace Lockett. Although money-wise, Tyler would have been cheaper.
  1. Cooper Kupp, 32 yo, has a three-year, $45 million contract with $26.5 million guaranteed.

In 2024, as #2 WR with the Los Angeles Rams, Cooper Kupp recorded 67 receptions, 710 receiving yards, and 6 receiving touchdowns across 12 games, averaging 59.2 receiving yards per game and 10.6 yards per reception.

  2. Tyler Lockett, 32 yo, signed a one-year deal worth up to $4 million with the Tennessee Titans in April 2025

In 2024, as #3 WR, Tyler Lockett recorded 49 receptions, 600 receiving yards, and 2 touchdowns in 17 games. His average of 35.3 receiving yards per game was also a key part of his season statistics.
However, our wise GM concluded that Lockett was part of the dead weight on our OL's development.

Kupp is also one of the best blocking receivers in the league, much more of a fit in this scheme than Lockett
