This contract looks like John couldn't decide whether to sign a franchise QB or give him a prove-it deal — "why not both?" 😁

yeah.....I like Dart a lot myself but I do agree that drafting him in the 1st round would still be a bit of a reach, to say the least.

I think we either draft an OL, Defensive player, OR.....and hear me out.....COLSTON LOVELAND.

Would improve our TE talent tremendously.
I would only draft Loveland if the plan is to dump Noah Fant. We don't need two pass catching TE who can't block.

I remember when handing out a payday to Matt Flynn was a lot, damn. Not saying it's apples-to-apples, just crazy how much some positions demand nowadays.

It seems like a good contract.

Denver signed a high-priced FA QB to a big deal...before even finding if he worked well on the team. He didn't. It was a disaster.
So, I was understandably perplexed when it looked like we did a 3-year deal for a good amount, with no clarity on whether Darnold would even be good outside of Minnesota.

This deal seems reasonable. Even if he reverts to pre-Viking Darnold it doesn't hurt us too bad.
This is why you wait for the details before judging a contract. The initial reports usually come from the agent and they're always structured to make the agent look as good as possible.

Damn. John and his cap folks just kill it on these contracts.
He had no other offer of the same value helped. Poor Darnold, he was dumped by the Vikings, after a season he played like an all-pro. He had to take a low baller when no one else offered.

Now we know he has bags and bags of chips on his shoulder.

Which is good for the Seahawks.

Sam is going to play his ass off this season.

I do not think we are going to see the Pre-Vikings (or even the Pre-49ers) Darnold.

He's matured too much (and learned too many lessons) to revert back.

This is pretty much what I’d heard on NFL network when he was signed. I like the deal if he doesn’t work out this year we draft a qb next year. If he does work out he’s a steal.

I’d still like to know how much is a signing bonus to see what our caps are for each year.

Same.

Hopefully we find out eventually.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that if Darnold was getting a signing bonus from Seattle, his agent CERTAINLY would have announced that... and he didn't... so no signing bonus, which is great because if saves salary cap if/when he's cut or traded.

Yep, that front office has done a VERY good job at several contracts lately. Initial numbers look scary, next day or two, not even close to the actual contract.

That would mean the contract is eating $6 million more than we saved trading Geno. Personally I’d like to get those savings now.

Kubiak became familiar with Darnold in that 2023 San Francisco year, when Kubiak was Kyle Shanahan’s passing game coordinator. Kubiak and Darnold hit it off, and now they’re together again for the first time, as they say.

Hypothetically, that should happen in spades. Kubiak was the New Orleans Saints’ offensive coordinator last season, and before injuries and roster issues saw a downturn, the offense Kubiak put together was about as good as any in the NFL. The Saints beat the Carolina Panthers 47-10 in Week 1, and shredded the Dallas Cowboys 44-19 in Week 2 before falling to earth in their own ways, but you could see the pieces Kubiak had but together for the benefit of better quarterbacks.

As much as any other NFL shot-caller, Kubiak wanted his quarterbacks to feast upon three concepts: Under-center dropbacks, play-action, and pre-snap motion. The 2024 Saints threw from under center 130 times, the fourth-most in the league. They used under-center play-action on 90 of those attempts, sixth-most in the league. And they used pre-snap motion on 312 of those attempts. All of those numbers evened out as the season progressed and Kubiak had to cycle through different quarterbacks, but when you see how Darnold performed with those three concepts last season, you start to get why this was a priority for Seattle.

Because Darnold beat up on the league when he had them in his quiver.

Under center: 113 of 161 for 1,567 yards, 891 air yards, a league-high 16 touchdowns, two interceptions, and a passer rating of 129.1.

Play-action: 119 of 166 for 1,616 yards, 825 air yards, 14 touchdowns, two interceptions, and a passer rating of 125.5.

Pre-snap motion: 243 of 366 for 2,835 yards, 1,599 air yards, a league-high 27 touchdowns, 10 interceptions, and a passer rating of 102.9.

All three at the same time: 66 of 96 for 912 yards, 463 air yards, eight touchdowns, no interceptions, and a passer rating of 126.7.

^^^^ Just putting this here as I don't know any other place to put this.

With Alvin Kamara, Chris Olave, and Rashid Shaheed on the roster? Yeah, I'd think they would be. But we don't have that.

Besides, they stacked up points against terrible Carolina and Dallas defenses in the first two weeks, then lost three straight while scoring 12, 24, and 13 points BEFORE the injuries started happening.
