Will you trade Geno to the Giants if they offer their 2025 second round pick?
For sure but I don't think they would do that. Will you trade Geno to the Giants if they offer their 2025 second round pick?
Geno is good for another couple three season, just in time to cover the development period for their QB of the future. A second rounder for 2 years of a veteran pro bowl QB? That's cheap. For sure but I don't think they would do that.
Spreading out the cap hit isn't that much different than payday loans. GMs like to think they are smart for spreading out cap hits, but unless you have a SB-caliber roster that you're trying to keep together 1 or 2 final years (before blowing it up and rebuilding) you are better off just taking the full cap hit up front.Jones' contract is guaranteed for 2024. He was going to be released before his 2025 guarantees kicked in on day 5 of the 2025 NFL year. Releasing him before the start of the 2025 NFL year means $11.1M of dead money due to be accounted for in 2026 will accelerate into 2025. For that reason alone I would not have released him before March. Maybe the Giants have an abundance of cap space, or maybe they don't care. I wouldn't have required him to attend team training and meetings between times. No team will claim Jones because doing so would mean picking up his $2M+ per game guarantees for this season. Once he clears wagers he will be free to play for minimum wage - but he'd be stupid to do so. (There will be offset guarantees in his current contract to stop him earning more). The risk from playing outweighs reward. Due to other impending QB retirements and a weak 2025 Draft for QBs he'll be seen as a cheap, ($10M+), starting QB option in free agency.
And just a year and a half ago, he signed the 4 year $160 million dollar deal.Talk about a guy who is laughing all the way to the bank. If someone is willing to pay stupid money for an average at best QB? More power to the player for getting that bag.
Jones concluded his six-year tenure in New York with a 24–44–1 record as a starter, the lowest winning percentage among quarterbacks with at least 50 starts since 2019. He also recorded the lowest touchdown percentage (3.1%) among quarterbacks with at least 1,000 pass attempts in that span.[77]
I was just thinking some QB starving team will pray he is even just average.I think Jones is better than his record with the Giants suggests. I would take him over a bunch of QBs. I think there will be a strong market for him.
The Browns, Raiders, and Panthers could all use him. I would also take Jones, especially at a lower salary, over Trevor Lawrence, Will Levis, Derek Carr and maybe even Anthony Richardson.
Given the Purdy shoulder situation, and the fact that their backup is Brandon Allen, I think that the 49ers will try to sign Jones next week.
Teams obviously aren't better off taking the cap hit immediately. Every team pushes cap hits back hits by using signing bonuses and restructure bonuses. This is because the cap hit payday loan is at 0% interest. It only makes sense to repay the cap hit loan early if you believe the salary cap will go down. By releasing Jones now the Giants management is restricting the 2025 options for the next management team by $11.1M. Effectively they gain a 2024 roster spot, but that spot is irrelevant if the team isn't trying to win.Spreading out the cap hit isn't that much different than payday loans. What is NY going to do with the extra cap space they'd free up by spreading out the hit? Do they have a franchise QB that they need to pay? Do they have an elite unit whose contracts are expiring?
They aren't competing for anything this year or next year, so just rip the bandaid off and get the rebuild started in earnest.
I don’t he stays in my. I think he wants far away from that city.Just saw a jones to jets msn garbage , the jets might cuz they are not that good but it seems a coaching staff and gm /ownership are more to a TEAM than possibly the qb
as demonstrated by many teams over the years
He was waived and nobody claimed him so the Giants owe him all of this year's salary remaining.I think we definitely need to look into it and see what it would take to sign him. It looks like his contract bumps up to $38.5 million next year. The guy has talent, maybe a change of scenery will help, similar to what happened with Geno. It just depends on how much $$ it would take in my opinion.
It's something about decision making/vision. He's either missing things or afraid to pull the trigger. There was a trick play against Carolina this year that actually ended up working in the design, dude had two wide open receivers... and just stood there to take a sack.I really don't understand the guy, he has all the tools (arm, height and body)
very mobile like Josh Allen but something is missing that coaching has not
fixed..
Is he short in the brain? slow processor? lack of will and fight? I mean these are
things you cannot coach so ehhh if that is the case, I pass..
