Not only do I think Waldron gets interviews, but I think he goes to the Broncos.

Why on earth would he go to a place where he knows for certain his QB won't be able to run his offense, and that he's stuck with him for 3 years.

He spent a season being questioned about whether or not he was capable or not, knowing that he hadn't even been given the chance to show what he could do. And... when he was questioned last year about why his offense wasn't performing, he said pretty directly that his plays don't work if the qb doesn't get the ball out on time.

No way he goes back to that mess.

Like Walter White (Breaking Bad) said, everything is negotiable. You don’t think Denver offering him say 90 mil for three years isn’t something he would go for?

Look, he’s the only coordinator who knows how to put personnel and scheme around Russ to give him the best chance to succeed.

Cowherd again doesnt get it right. If the Seahawks are putting together a SB run why would he leave in the middle of that? I dont see it. If he has a chance to make a run at the SB that s not worth giving up. He aint going any where.

Yeah, Denver thought that they had struck gold when they got Hackett to work with Wilson & run the big show in Denver.
How'd the Waldron & Russ gig work out last season?...Soured pretty damned quick when Shane tried to meld Wilson's scat about style with a conventional Quarterbacks system.
Look folks, Waldron did OK with Jarred Goff, but Shane being hired away by the Seahawks was a no big deal for the Rams, & winning the Super Bowl proves that point...The right Quarterback makes a big difference.
Now, Geno Smith WORKS VERY WELL with the Waldron system, just like I think he would have done EQUALLY AS WELL with the Schottenheimer system.
Believing that it was Shane Waldron who made Geno Smith a top ten Quarterback, is an insult to Geno's intelligence.
GENO & SHANE was a really good matchup, but Geno OBVIOUSLY has the moxie to run Waldrons system, again, "The right Quarterback makes a big difference."
Yes absolutely, Shane Waldron could theoretically get hired away for a HC job, BUT whoever he takes on @ Quarterback will not necessarily be "The right Quarterback" FOR HIS SYSTEM. (see Jarred Goff)

Waldron really really really need to thank Russell Wilson, if Wilson stayed around, Waldron's dream of becoming a HC will have to wait or may not happen. But Russ decided to leave, and as Pete said, Geno does what he was told. The rest, is history.

Waldron need to send gift certificate for 22oz steak to Russ and family, come to think of it, gift certificates for members of team 3. Without Mrs. Wilson and members of team 3, Wilson just might decide to stay? nah, he will still wanted to leave.

Makes complete sense to me.
Your stock will never be higher than after turning a perceived 'worst starting QB in the NFL' (check polls before the season started) to a potential MVP.

Highly doubt Denver is an option. But money talks.
Plenty of other places would pay good money for that guy that could make a nobody QB into an All-Pro.

Usually, these moves are not this early in the season but expect he will get his share of opportunities after this season.

I hope he looks at the long game. Only a few of those guys do well. Look at Josh McDaniel. Plus Hacket. He might just step into the head coaching job here after a few years and a super bowl run.

If I had to choose between Denver and ANY other team (heck throw on some College programs) with less money, I'd take the latter. The Wilson deal is BAD, good luck building a contender with that contract and QB.

ETA* We obviously don't know Waldron like Waldron does, maybe he wants to see his contributions grow. Ride it out and take over when these draft classes are in their prime. Come out of the HC gates like the Juggernaut.

I was waiting for the "You know, Russell actually picked Waldron" angle, and Cowherd and crew did not disappoint.

Yeah, Waldron may get a head coaching job. He's been great. However, the idea that Pete should go all in this season because he's afraid of losing Waldron is stupid. Again, this is a variation of the Pete vs. Russ argument, where the working assumption for many people continues to be the notion that Pete inhibits the offense. So for them, it's not Pete or Geno who lead to this offensive turnaround. Instead, it's primarily Waldron. Thus, Pete should take advantage of Waldron while he has him. It's dumb.

Pete's had a top-10 offense in 9 out of 15 seasons before Waldron joined the team. I like Waldron. But it's not like we were an offensive dumpster fire before he arrived.

I don't get the trend of just offering HC jobs to coordinators based on their success leading at most, only 1/3rd of a team. HC ing requires a skillset that is far more complicated than simply coordinating an offense or defense. I know it's the way things go, but for the basis for a hire to be the x and os success... that's just a small part of the equation. I could be wrong, but when i see Shane, leader of a team, gravitas, charisma,... those aren't things that jump off the page to me. He has an almost quirky way to him that comes across more like a corny-cool, studied-up, master of an offensive mind.

But i guess if someone wants to throw him a bag full of money and the controls of a team, that's all good for him.

And agree that if he is coveted, Pete will be happy for him.
That is always kind of how it's been, isn't it not? Coordinator gets successes, gets offered a job as head coach. Occasionally a positional coach will get the role, such as Tom Cable.

Though, you do make a good point. It seems like the vetting done on some of these guys is cursory at best. Hackett is a good example of this. The so called offensive-guru was not in charge of much over in GB. The plans, offensive system and calls were all LaFleur. Hackett was really just an assistant with no real leadership role over in GB. He wasn't really in charge of managing much.

I've come to realize that management style/leadership and culture are just as important in building a winning style if not more important than anything else.

Pete WANTS his assistants to land head coaching jobs. It is in his best interest for a variety of reasons. Being known as a career enhancer for starters. It makes the hires easier and the position a coveted destination for rising prodigies.

If you got the players (or reputation), the replacement coordinator is not a tough find. Pete and John have a short list. More than likely refreshed every season. Similarly, the DOD has a war plan to invade Britain with the expectation that they will never have to use it. Doesn't mean they still don't have the war plan sitting on a dusty shelf in the Pentagon. The NFL business is a business of due diligence and assistant coaches are a revolving door. Pete and John are elder statesman in the business. There isn't anything they have not seen or not been confronted with. They effortlessly glide through transitions like these. How many former coordinators do they have floating around? The more, the better. It is a success indicator. Musical chairs.

LOL this is one of the most overrated comments that I'm hearing.

Yes Waldon, did a good job. But he did a good job because of the tools that Seattle has.

Seattle has a OL and they can run 3 TE sets and they are able to run the ball.

Which other teams have that? Maybe the 49ers or the Giants, or Colts but because of the weapons that Seattle has, Seattle is doing a great job.

Look at Russ last season, he wasn't good and when Geno took over, it was bad as well.

If Waldon becomes a HC it would be just like Hackett 2022 all over again.

Geno Smith was not a nobody, he was a former Heiman's Trophy candidate, and he did have a rookie 8-8 season. Geno's physical tools should never be in doubt, of course national 'experts' never bother to read or study Geno. Geno was athletic and has all the measurables. ON TOP OF ALL THAT, Geno is very coachable.

Waldron has to be crazy to take that Broncos' HC job, along the line of 'fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, ....".

Its the natural progression of things, its expected. Pete will be left with at least the idea of what Waldron was doing.
Wait a minute...I thought it was "Pete Ball".

Cowherd needs to go back to Portland and cover Oregon high school football and the Ducks and Beavers. He was better as a local news guy than a national personality. He just likes to put out opinions that are not mainstream. He hits once in awhile and he gets all smug but he's just a narcissist seeking relevance.
I doubt Waldren gets a head coaching offer this season, (unless Seattle makes a decent playoff run). I think it's in Waldren's best interest to hang around in Seattle awhile. I think another powerhouse is forming here and he's be a fool to take off too early. Heck, he's the the front runner to replace Pete if Pete hangs it up.
