Guess we see if Geno has these same issues with a new center.
It’s not even debatable one snap went right through his hands. Kind of funny though you accused me of being biased yet you don’t seem to like any criticism of Geno. 😁

On a serious note, I don’t foresee this being a problem moving forward

I had high hopes for Connor anchoring the Center position for the next 6 or 7 years. Oh well, another letdown.

They're actually getting easier to accept... not that that is the long-term solution.

I'm no Geno apologist. He's always been a bridge to something to me but since the resurrection of russ he's been getting it worse than usual..

I have a couple thoughts, not that anyone cares:
Without knowing anything about salary stuff, is it possible the FO told Connor that the team was shifting gears and he could either retire or get released? MM may have convinced JS that these moves ain't working and it's time to give other guys their shot.
Is this a midseason overhaul of the OL? Lucas is playing this week, Connor is gone, if Haynes is stepping in I think this might be a concerted effort to just start all over.
Yes, this is bad for any continuity, but it can't really get any worse for the OL. I mean, Connor stunk, Bradford stinks, RT by committee has sucked, Tomlinson has been bad also, but there doesn't seem to be an heir to take his spot.
At this stage of the season, I say give the young guys a chance to see if they can magically form an average OL together. Stranger things have happened.

If that were true, it seems unlikely, or at least wildly unadvisable, that Connor would choose the option that nets him considerably less money.

I was hoping they'd keep him to compete for LG next season, where snapping isn't an issue, and where he originally played for Dallas the first 3 or 4 years of his NFL career.

Bingo, Connor sacrifice income, he walked away from money. As a journeyman, he hasn't made big $$$$ yet, that makes walking away from money really odd.

Exactly. If he didn’t want to play here he could just ask to be cut and still make his money going to another team. It’s definitely either a family issue or his head just isn’t in it. I wish him the best. He wouldn’t just retire if he hated it here. He loses way too much money that way.

More to life then money
He could take time off for big family or personal whatever , and still get pay.

Will your life, my fellow 12, be better with a lot less money, make that million less? Make that million $$ less and a bad reputation that may hurt your future job opportunities?

Could just be a combination of everything, not playing like he was used to before the injury, the losing and seeing headlines blaming the O LINE for a lot of the issues, he could be in constant pain as well having the injury and need to carry the weight he has to put on play. Losing his motivation from all of it.

The last time we played was 12 days ago, we are playing again in 2 days. He announced his retirement on today, the 12th day! I don't recall that he was injured in the past 12 days?

A man just walk off from millions This whole thing made no sense at all , let hope he and his family is well.

The team only announced it today but he hadn’t practiced all week due to those same personal reasons and since we don’t know who practiced and who didn’t during the bye week this is something that may have been known for the team since the last game but didn’t want to announce it until now.

For those that think he up and quit because the he wasn't happy with the Seahawks, bear in mind:

- they're 4-5 and still in the playoff hunt. Not exactly a recipe for hating the team you're on.
- they're 9 games in to a 17 game season. 8 more weeks (being cynical and assuming we don't make the playoffs) and he's a free agent and can sign with any team he wants to.
- If he comes out of retirement, he's still under contract to the Seahawks. So retiring and potentially coming back doesn't get him anything, if he left because he doesn't like Seattle.

If the Seahawks didn't want him, they'd release him. He doesn't gain anything by retiring, unless he is really done with the game.

He also could have different perspective on the prospects of this team / his unit.

If he isnt playing well, isnt 100% healthy and feels the direction of the offense (the chances of the scheme working, particularly on the o line) is not good or likely to not get better, he could just decide to not subject himself to further injury or the slow downward spiral of a season and team unraveling.

Could also be a Dodson scenario where he isnt getting it mentally, isnt up to snuff physically, and decided on his own and in convo with the FO to hangemup.

I just find it curious that there was no statement from the player on such a surprising move.

No - i love my team and the fans in Seattle and so it hurts to have to call it a career and let my teammates down, but its in my and the Seahawks best interest... blah blah blah

Wouldnt that be expected?

Not 'regular' for sucj a statement to not be made and for the dude to just be gone.

I was excited by the prospect of him playing for the Hawks but truly disappointed in his play after seeing him play, but he has played adequately at times. He regrettably turned out to be yet another failed choice here despite his strong play for his two other teams.

I suspect his knees are shot and there is no chance of further improvement there so he just couldn’t do things the way he wanted anymore. It’s looking to be yet another buzzard’s luck season for the OLine where some serious rethinking is obviously needed.

Sure hope Olu has been doing his weight room work with greater urgency or the middle of the OLine is going to be even worse than than we’ve seen so far. This news is undoubtedly bad news ffor the team and signals some further wholesale OLine needed changes upcoming.

For sure I wish this player well with this somewhat untimely decision the reasons really should be his alone. Once again it’s next man up.
