I honestly don't know how I feel about this. It's such a huge gamble on a kid who has never seen big league time.

Zero service time. You’d have to assume he’s coming up soon ?

They must have seen more than enough from Colt during Spring Training to be convinced he's going to be a hell of a player in the majors. And from what I've been hearing about how this guy has been performing, he does appear to be legit. But still, that's a pretty ballsy extension.

Jesus,...! that's great for the kid. And for us if and when he pans out.

Just don't be the next Ackley (I know he was 2B but, similar hype and projected career trajectory)

It's great for Colt. Even if he becomes a superstar and is underpaid so to speak he will be young enough to land a monster deal at the end of it. It's a gamble for Seattle but could also pay off big time. I think because we have cheap ownership I'm sort of good with the gamble because we need to retain stars and if he becomes one it allows us to to compete with other players. Risky but maybe a smart risk for both sides? This tells me people around this kid think he's the real deal too. I don't know if people would've said that about Kelenick or Ackely at this stage?

I like it, it reminds me of when JRod got his shortly after coming up,
I think Colt will earn his money.
I'm surprised Cole Young hasn't gotten his yet, the Ms plan is coming
together nicely, I know I took flak from some rube who couldn't
comprehend it no matter how hard I tried to explain this 2-3 years ago.

Meh seems like a big gamble but then again am I the only one who doesn’t really mind overpaying guys when there’s no salary cap? Now if they use it as an excuse to spend less money elsewhere? Then I’ll be pissed

I have this strong feeling JP just... isn't going to be that hot this year and they know it... We need a SS if that happens.. I love me some Rivas but only for utility and spells... lets hope he proves us wrong, because I doubt they will bring Cole up until mid season

Exactly. Rivas is not a long term answer. He is a great off the bench / utility. Cole will be up after mid season; can't imagine any sooner than that unless the team is in a major slump and needs a jolt.

They didn't give him a ton. I know, who am I to say $95 million isn't a ton? But for baseball this isn't bad if he pans out. My fear is Evan White got the same type of treatment without ever playing in the Bigs and look how that turned out? I know you can't predict injuries. I'm cautiously optimistic because I've seen this before with subpar results.

White didn't get this kind of treatment. This is a much bigger payday, its an even bigger risk

More evidenece of why the Ms think Emerson is worth $95m. (Watch vid below, spew out a mouthful of coffee, and exclaim loud enough to disturb the roaches in your walls "HOLY [FILL-IN-THE-BLANK], THAT WAS A HELL OF A THROW!")

I think this guy is going to to get voted to the All Star game within 3-4 years.
