Coincidence?

Is it any coincidence that three of the top defenses (including the Hawks) from a year ago are in the Top 5 statistically through 2 games this preseason? Or is this to be expected, and will continue through the regular season?

I agree it's too small a sample to predict the upcoming regular season... I'm more fascinated by the fact that 3 of the top 5 in preseason defense were also top 5 LAST year...... kinda crazy, especially considering that the majority of the games are being played with non-starters... Just found it interesting is all....

I guess for all the "piss poor run defense" talk around these parts, there aren't many (any?) who give a crap our defense is actually holding its own (top 5) through two preseason games..... ummmmm ok..... lol

I know the run defense has been suspect but let's look at the big picture, ok?

Context is everything, Russell Wilson had a relapse and bad perfromance also the last few weeks, only a 140 QB rating, he better get is poop in group or he could lose his job.

Look at it this way, our number one defense has not played enough to get a relative rank about anything, just as Russell Wilsons QB rating is about as accurate. They are a small sample in a game that there was no game plan for with a bunch of players substituted for evaluations in certain situations etc.

On the other hand, small sample size or not, I don't think you can COMPLETELY discredit the stout defense or RW's QB rating.... why? Because they are closer to the "norm" of a year ago then they are to an anomaly.... that's all I was getting at....

Context is everything. Like, I don't see run defense even on there; it's total defense. Umm, we kinda have a good secondary...we could be giving up more rush yards, but less pass yards.

Also in context: SF is the #1 team, but we've given up less points. Again. Arizona is allowing 22 ypg more than us, but has allowed 2/3 LESS points than we have, and has forced more turnovers. I really don't like total yards as an indicator of defensive ranking. You can ring up 400 yards of offense....it still doesn't mean you will win any games.

And yea, Russ better get his crap together......TJack has a higher QB rating ! QB Controversy !
