RB Index, Week 7: Chris Carson headlines NFL's hardest runners

By Maurice Jones-Drew NFL.com Analyst

Seattle hasn't lacked hard-nosed runners this decade. Does a player by the name of Marshawn Lynch ring a bell? Maybe this will help. Like Beast Mode, the 5-foot-11, 222-pound Carson is in a system that perfectly fits his bruising, downhill running style.

Carson explodes through the A and B gaps at the line of scrimmage and is consistently able to plow through the teeth of the defense thanks to his dynamic leg drive. He regularly breaks tackles, having gained at least 100 rushing yards after contact in each of the last three weeks, according to Pro Football Focus.

That's a feat the rest of the running backs in the NFL have combined to accomplish just three times this season.

100 yac in each of the last 3 games?
Nearly all his yards are after contact 3 straight weeks. We happy about Chris, sad for the OL, or gonna call this a goof by MJD.

That my friends is why Penny isn't starting. Imagine him trying to break all of those tackles in an attempt to get positive yardage. He wouldn't, he'd go straight down.

He really is a beast. Loved to dish out punishment, has good hands and can be real allusive.

No doubt he's a hard runner, the question is whether he can keep doing that without getting injured.

He has a few years left in him yet, but being a violent runner shortens a backs production years for sure.

Sure is nice to see him in traffic blowing through people to past the line. So many times there’s a few yards but not nearly enough and goes agents even more. It’s catching for other teammates to see that it fires everyone up.
