"The ball landed in the end zone and now by rule is still a live ball," Pederson explained after the game. "Last year that would've been down, it would've been dead and the ball comes out to what, the 25 or whatever it was last year. Now the ball's live, so the ball was in the end zone, came out to about the half-yard line. The returner was in the end zone but pulled the ball back into the end zone when he took a knee.

"So safety. That's the rule."

Seahawks, take note.

Chiefs need to have ST rules seminar. That was a dumb mistake.

Essentially, if you are the offensive player attempting to “down” the ball and take a knee, just make sure, when you do so, the ball and your entire body is NOT at all in the end zone.

I get the confusion.

It seems like the NFL or just some/or maybe even a lot of players, doesn’t get updates with new rules or they fail to listen when told…or even coaches don’t know either…lmao

It used to be that the entire ball and body needed to be in the endzone to take a touchback. Then they allowed for touchbacks to occur outside of the endzone on kickoffs. Which is dumb. I can't imagine where this confusion came from.

To me, the entire new kickoff rules are dumb. They overcomplicated something that was easy to understand (once upon a time).

I was watching the game live and the Ref’s called it a touchback I was thinking why isn’t the play a safety? Good thing they got it right, the officials have enough problems with the long term rules and now making more rules is muddying the waters
