Everyone has off days and Carson is a legit #1 RB. But wowzers was this a bad day for him. This was his worst game as a pro IMO.
If I'm Pete, I keep him as the #1. I think the fumbles will get cleaned up, and the best way to move past the hesitation is with confidence.

It really sucks but you just can't trust him. Dude is a #1 RB in the league but his 3 fumbles in 2 games with 2 TD's coming from them just isn't acceptable. Plus him slipping over and over today, especially on runs that were primed for big gains, just can't accept it. He needs to take a week off and focus on it.

I don't like how Pete benched him.. he's our guy right now, tell him to suck it up, and put him right back in.

I don’t trust him. Go with quick passing game and use procise and penny. He’s killing us. Then trade him for defense back help

I agree at this point. How many games has he played in his career vs how many fumbles? I think it's something like 6/7 fumbles in less than 25 games played. That won't cut it.ImTheScientist":7s1w8jmm said:

Nobody was talking about his fumbling problem last season, because it wasn't a problem. So it's not like this has been constant glaring burr in the shoe that Pete has just been ignoring the whole time - as some people are representing it.
That said, he needs to have Penny threaten his job a bit.
Sucks because without Carson being Carson i don't think this team will be that good. I know Penny had a big run last week but Carson brings that toughness that Seattle had with Marshawn. I don't remember the Cincy fumble but last week and this week talk about perfect examples of guys punching the ball out. I hope they keep rolling him out there, but he better find a way to hold onto the ball real quick.

This is an interesting and unfortunate dilemma. None of Carson's fumbles have been particularly egregious on their own and it's a very recent problem. It's also too big of a problem to just overlook.
My primary concern in the short term is that Carson still looks like our best option to run between the tackles, while Procise, Penny and Homer all operate best in space. Just benching Carson punitively could potentially damage his confidence and aggression going forwards. Is it sufficient to make this a further emphasis in practice?
This issue also increased my concern regarding two longer term issues.
First, we continue struggle in poor weather more than the typical team does. As of a year or two ago Wilson was one of the most accurate QBs in the NFL in dry weather (#1?) and somewhere in the mid 30's when playing in wet weather (#37?). We also see our players slipping around in the first half on the road before they can change cleats at half-time. It becomes a pretty big problem when we're slipping around at home and struggling more than the opponent with Seattle drizzle. Maybe the players have too much agency in selecting their own equipment, maybe Pete lets them practice indoors too often at VMAC when it's raining outside, or maybe we've just ended up with a group of skill players who are best in nice weather.
Second, witnessing how well Kamara played puts our RB group in an unfavorable light. It is a deep group but I'm 10% less certain after today's game that that any of our current group is the kind of difference maker that we've been lacking since Marshawn. We've seen the Rams offense look mediocre without a healthy Gurley and the Chargers struggle this year without Gordon. I imagine our scouting department is paying extra close attention to the RBs on Saturdays.
