When we do focus on OL we end up reaching on Carpenter and getting Moffit as well. Maybe the thought is, if we're going to suck on OL at least we'll do it on the cheap?

No credit to the Panthers line? Who did a great job IMO.

McQuistan being knocked on his ass by a LB he saw coming doesnt make me think he's just a really good LB. makes me think McQ stinks...

Overreaction #1 of the season. Well played.

This. They played a great front 7 (top-5) on the road.

The roadgrated when it counted - in the last minutes to close down the game.

Unger had a spotty game today. I'm more concerned about that than anything else. Which is to say not concerned at all, because it's one friggin' game against one of the league's best front sevens. Do none of you read Kearly's previews?

First season game woes, along with the reality of 80+ deg heat and humidity is a factor as well, yes. The Oline stepped it up 2nd half but it's clear we some serious work to do.
D line as well to a degree. Yes, a decent front 7, but they weren't on all cylinders either. Just glad we eeked a win here. I knew it would be a tough game.

Those with Lynch concerns are a bit off-base btw. Oline has to get firing with the run blocking.

Pass protection as well. Again, better in 2nd hald after an a** chewing...but along with that I wasn't impressed with RW today. Poor decisions, holding onto that ball too long.
I hope we can temporarily take him off the .net pedestal for a while. He's a concern and I knew he would be at the season start (but I'm a firm believer if any QB can right the wrongs it's him).

Still we won today. Awesome. But these wins aren't a-plenty as the season moves on until we shore up at least some of these issues. Don't wanna hear anything about the SB.

Go Hawks!

I'm pretty high on the next draft. Many positions of need are going to be available for the Hawks and it's deep on O-Linemen IMO. We do need better O-Linemen though now.

4th and 1 against Atlanta and our offensive line was crushed. This is not a post-game 1 question or overreaction - it is a question asked by several in the offseason

You realize we were playing against one of the better defensive front sevens in all of football, right? They were already very solid in that regard last year. That was before drafting Star Lotulelei and Kawann Short at defensive tackle this year to go with Charles Johnson, Greg Hardy, Jon Beason, and Luke Kuechly.

Can't argue your point...but hard to imagine us playing many bad D-lines in the post season. I believe the SB is our ultimate objective. We can make excuses or we can accept that it is a weakness on this team and one with no real correction in sight.

Other than post count, I'm unsure why the OP got ridiculed expressing his very reasonable concern. Our line is not of championship caliber. 3 yards and a cloud of dust isn't going to win us the division, let alone the SB. Pete and Bevell need to draw up some stuff that will reduce pressure, ASAP. YMMV.

Unger was getting pushed back into Wilson far to often and Bruno got beat badly on the Wilson fumble. There's some cause for concern .That said that front four of Carolina is great.

It is the right guard spot ; Sweezy is a weak pass blocker and Bruno or Unger have to help him far too often. They fixed it pretty well by half time.

Uhm, that play was the result of predictability not inability.

You are wrong. Think it was Sweezy that was dominated. 4th and 1 is a predictable play across the league and yet most teams convert. And really we are talking 4th and inches. The line didnt hold up, many pointed out three weaknesses of this team 1) WR - Harvin was signed, 2 - Pass Rush - Avril, Bennett to fix, 3 - O-line - nothing. Yet we drafted WRs and RBs that don't see the field and was cut. So why not take a few fliers on D-line?

I believe that is the point if the OP. you may disagree but I think it is a valid question and not overreaction of the year etc etc

I don't think it's been ignored, Bailey and Bowie were both acquired, I think they both showed promise in pre season, we can only hope that these rough gems start shining with some work.

You are wrong.

Actually I am not. You are blinded by perpetual pessimism.

Some people love misery

I understand what the OP was coming from. All offseason, you could read on this site, and a lot of media sites about how good our OL was at run blocking. It's not misery, it was a perceived strength.

I actually complained about this in the preseason, calling our OG's merely average. We got dominated by athletic DL's. There is tons of reason for concern, as we get another damned good DL next week.

Well, we know what to draft next year. I hope it gets better, but I have my doubts about Sweezy and McQuistan. They're high floor/low ceiling guys. Carpenter was probably just showing rust; last time we saw him he looked better.

Like someone also said, this is a damned good DL, it could end up being the best 4 man front in the league. They're going to embarass people.
