Well, I think it might give the player a little more confidence that they think of him as a long term solution. He played well-to-decent for us, so I'm down with this move. Everybody has their options open for the future, I guess, if he is still an RFA next season. A lot of people whine if they think one of their favorite players is 'underpayed.' Edit: RFA players must have three accrued seasons of 6 or more NFL games. Burley played in 0 games in 2013 (w/ Jacksonville). He was active for 13 games each of the last two seasons. So the part about him being an RFA in 2017 is accurate, assuming that he's active for at least 6 games this upcoming season.
Still not sure why Seattle declined the initial ERFA contract, which was presumably for less than $600k. Maybe a change of heart?
