Very few thought we would miss a beat when Clemons went down, either.

Funny, I don't recall that at all. I remember a lot of people very worried about both the pass rush and the run D. But maybe that's just me. :|

I'm sure there were those espousing both sides. I would be one of those you are remembering. I got into several debates with a bunch of folks here who were saying Irvin would fill his shoes admirably and that we would see no big drop off with Scruggs and Irvin.

Love the team, love the reputation, love the drug use, love the image. I like them pushing the limits and personally have no issues with PED's. Just Win Baby.

If this team won the super bowl and 10 years from now you found out everyone was on PED's nobody would have a problem with it. Off your soap boxes.
I get that this was in all likelihood a mistake, and I'm not condemning Bruce, but to "love the drug use, love the image"? What image would that be, exactly?

At this point, I want to see Pete Carroll publicly state to his team that anybody else caught violating the PED policy gets a second suspension of double the time of the NFL one from him, in addition to the NFL suspension. In Bruce's case, 8 weeks on top of the 4.

Send a damned message. This has got to stop.

Avril/Bennett/Powell/Irvin/Clem

Were stocked up

Bad news for the reputation of this team but I'd hazard a guess that Powell and Mayowa are high-fiving their agents at this point.

I want to bring up situations from last year where I was right, too. It'll take awhile though.

He is young. Everyone wants his job. It is a temptation to get a edge and any edge. He made a mistake. He will move on and learn from it IMO.

I can accept that he made a mistake...but to make this mistake AFTER all the stuff the team went through last year is what makes him stupid. It's a conscious decision to do something that others got caught for, with the idea that you will not get caught. It is playing with fire and it's dumb, especially after the NFL is going to be looking harder at all Seahawks since the NFL was embarassed by the Sherman situation when he got off scott free.

But doesn't it sound as if he got "caught" for it last year? When else would he have failed a test for PED's?

It sounds like the end of last year. If it was the same time as everyone else, he would have been suspended with everyone else.

It's pretty obvious that this happened AFTER the Browner/Sherman stuff (because he was not suspended at the same time), so at the end of the season.

I thought that Browner and Sherman had both failed drug tests VERY early on - like even pre-season. Both had appealed, Browner dropped his appeal, and thus was suspended. The public learned about it very late in the process. I could easily see Irvin getting tested mid-way through last season, and getting results even before the Sherman/Browner fiasco went public. They could have maybe even appealed a mid-year test, so he could finish out the season. All of this goes on for months behind closed doors before the public knows about it. Not sure that we will ever know exact time frames - beyond the fact that it sucks.

This is great in theory, but it's not plausible in reality. Suspensions are covered by the CBA and the team cannot add suspensions in these types of cases. I suppose Pete could bench players or not re-sign them or even release them, but by rule he can't suspend them for something the league has already doled out a punishment for.

I would like for someone in the media to press Pete and John to make a generalized statement against these positive tests. He won't make any statements about a specific player, but they need to try to nip this in the bud, it's almost starting to seem like they condone it (although I doubt that they actively do)

That's pretty much where I'm at, too.

Good thing we signed a ton of DEs in the off season.....

I really hope our run Defense doesnt look like it did in the Atlanta game if Clems is also gone.

Ugh this is some horrible news. I am not happy having our best pass rusher on the bench.

High competition is a great thing but these guys can't use the 'whatever it takes to get ahead' approach because of it.

I think our run defense (especially at the start of the season), with a healthy Mebane and Red and new additions will be just fine.

Really idiotic, bonehead act.

Don't bother apologising. Who's next then? Five suspensions in what? Two years?

And it's time the media asked some tough questions.

Not saying he's a bust (yet), but he's clearly an idiot. Pete's my man, but he knew this when we "took a chance on Irvin" and picked him (apparently) higher than we should have. We would be wise to just trade out of the 1st every year. Excluding Okung and Earl, we've not had a decent 1st rder since Trufant...a decade ago.

Yes, yes, I know this is an entirely new FO and this FO is batting .500 (in the 1st), but that's not exactly great (even though definitely better than the cartoons they replaced).

Pete and Co. need to do something about this crap immediately. IF our new guys are killing it without Irvin, I'd be fine adding a team suspension at the end of the NFL suspension. Let him lose half a year's salary and see if that don't shake things up through-out the team.

Some in here seem to be OK with all of this. You must be lost. One poster commented that Irvin was "just trying to gain a competitive edge". Oh, is that all he was doing? How do you justify that...because he's a Hawk? It's CHEATING. Irvin's actions were reckless, rediculous and there's nothing OK about it. Vent over.

Questioning the organization is an absurd overreaction. They can't babysit these players, and the CBA isn't going to allow them to hand out their own punishments. What do you guys want? Random locker checks? The players are grown men and have to take responsibility for their own actions. This is also unfair characterization of the VAST majority of the Seahawk players who are competing hard and staying clean.

The Sherman/Browner suspensions were leaked way earlier in the process than they should have been. I'd bet dollars to donuts that he took the adderall for the Atlanta game since he had more responsibility. If that is indeed the case, then the league needs to allow it, because it clearly offered him no extra edge.
