99% of the time I don't really look at who wrote a post. I agree or disagree with the post regardless of the author. So if you are the person that was wrong before - shame on you :D but pretty sure there were lots of people in that thread not liking Browner very much

Browner's playing style is just brutal, and I love it. He is an extremely important piece of our secondary.

JenningsBrowner_original.gif

I always love that gif, because Jennings tries to bow up on him, and just gets man-handled as shit. C'mon, man! Browner will wreck your life!

Can't wait to see Jennings matching up with him when the Vikings come to town... I guarantee you he remembers this well. Probably a little peeved that has has to play us two years in a row!

I'll guarentee him and every other team will keep their heads on a swivel when playing the Seahawks. I heard Jennings saw the play on tape, called Browner and apologized because after the ball is caught all offensive players past the line of scrimmage are considered downfield blockers and fair game. Its just that no one else has ever done that.

I still don't particularly care what you people thought of me criticizing Browner. (It IS me that many of you are thinking of, though many of you are too polite to name names.) I don't think it was ever strange to be skeptical about a CFL star in his late twenties whose first year back in the NFL only confirmed his reputation of penalty-drawing play. 99% of guys like that don't improve into perennial Pro Bowlers. It's also not strange to be skeptical of turnovers as a reliable, consistent stat.

The Denver game was probably the best, most technically sound game of Browner's career. He's never covered that well. He probably had extra motivation, playing as he was against the team that cut him and denied him his first NFL shot. But he played great. If he keeps it up, Seattle ends up in a very good position: having to decide between two CB's who are potential Pro Bowl material in their own different ways. Criticism of Thurmond is still focused mostly on his health and not on his talent. But hey, if Browner can somehow keep manufacturing big plays, he becomes a player template unto himself. There's no arguing with that talent.

So PC/JS continue their streak of making most NFL paradigms and projections look like foolishness. If Browner remains on this tier, I'll be eating crow. (Just try not to shove my face into the dish, OP. That's a douchebag tactic. The honest crow-eaters will do so on their own; the dishonest ones won't admit to being wrong no matter what you say.)

I have had a man-crush on Browner since 2011. The guy is a turnover magnet and has singlehandedly changed the outcome of games.

This is a guy who nearly eliminated the need for a hail Mary to Tate in the GB game. After the Hawks came up short near the goal line, the Pack tries to runout the clock by running with control. BB somehow strips the ball behind the GB 5 yard line, but GB gets lucky and retains possession. You NEVER see that in the NFL. If that ball ends up in Seahawk hands? That game is over with 4 chances near the goal line.

The strip in Carolina.. just blatant ripping of the ball. The iNTs.. the physical play. For being a big guy, he rarely gets beat, it happens once in a while, but otherwise his guy is getting thrashed.

BB is not just a corner, he is a football player and most of all, a Seahawk. He fits this roster as the untraditional brew of chaos that it is. He fits it like a glove. As the oldest corner on the roster that isn't Winfield, his time may be coming, but as long as he can play, I want him here.

He comes across as an intense and angry individual. In his Real Rob Report and game time interviews he's not the affable easy going guy. I like it!

While he gets his fair share of criticism he is a lot better than people think. Definitely in the underrated column IMO.

How many teams can say that they have an enforcer at cornerback?
Any decent team pre-1980ish. And San Francisco with Ronnie Lott.:) Browner is a virtual twin to him but faster. It's silly.
Except Lott was a Safety.
The real difference between Lott and Browner? Browner would cut off somebody else's fingers so he could play.

Man that was really good.

I've been a BB homer from the get-go myself. Always a sucker for the underdog. People keep trying to frame him as a replacement level player who's going to get his job taken from him. Are you freaking kidding me? He's a core player. Like you said he has a habit of changing the outcomes of games, rare for a DB.

Good to see the love for Browner. I've watched him back in the day playing for my Oregon State Beavers. Will always remember thinking his FR year, "who is that HUGE CB with those long arms getting into receivers?" Browner was Freshman All-American that year, as he was raw, but still took over WR's since OSU has always played a physical, pressing CB defense. He also had a 30+ yard pick 6 TD vs USC that I'm sure Carroll remembers to this day! ;) OSU fans were crushed when he left way too early after his Soph year. Looking back, it probably would have been better for both if he would have stayed at OSU at least through his Junior year.

Anyway.........back to the present. Thankfully, it seems through his LONG, tough road through the CFL and back, and now he might finally be coming into his own. For sure, Browner has cut down drastically on the PI calls (when was the last one btw?). But also, his coverage has improved AND he is now a strip ball monster. He had two this last game alone, one leading to an incomplete and the other a TO. Those skills are priceless and again get into a WR's head knowing that even if they catch the ball, BB is still coming after that ball with a vengeance.

Was great to see such a big game from him. Sure it's only preseason, but I'm feeling good about his production this year. He's had such a long road to get back to the NFL, you KNOW he will be going all out on every play. He'll be a game changer on that side this year that's for sure. Go BB!

I have said this time and time again. Brandon Browner may occasionally blow a coverage or give up a big play, but he is a playmaking machine and the most intimidating force at his position across the entire NFL. There is simply no replacing his intangibles. Receivers legitimately fear the guy. Some get so frustrated with his smothering jams at the line that they can't resist fighting with him. Best part is, the refs seem to just turn the other way and let Brandon have his way with 'em afterward.

Wes Welker said he took the biggest shot of his entire career at the hands of #39 when the Patriots came for a visit last season. Wes Welker has made his living going over the middle of the field, and the biggest shot he's taken came from a cornerback.

Remember that time when Brandon Browner made a game changing play? Yeah, me too. It was pretty awesome. In fact, it was like... (exaggeration incoming).... Half of the games he's played for us. The guy is a one man highlight reel and were it not for the fact his NFL career was shortened by his stint in Canada, he would be on a hall of fame trajectory right now. Hell, he could still be, considering that he doesn't tend to get injured much and his style relies more on brute force of will, rather than speed.

I think for some, they won't know what they have until it's gone, but right here, right now, I know what we have in Brandon Browner and wouldn't want to change it for anything.

Except Lott was a Safety.

You are 100% entirely right AND wrong Jazz. Lott played corner at a pro bowl level early in his career (in the exact time period mentioned). He then moved to safety later on in SF and played safety exclusively in other stops. He was a natural/college safety that played corner (just as Easley did at times at the beginning and "as needed" which is why some have suggested moving Earl to corner in some situations... the same way Catlin was using Easley... all over the place, because he was like an offensive weapon that you move around and disguise).

Lott was an amazing player because he played every position as a DB. That is the "trump card" that people like to play when saying he was the best DB ever, rather than just the best safety ever. He's better than Deion Sanders, because he wasn't a one trick pony. He actually could cover like a blanket and hit like a Mac Truck.

I think the comparisons to Browner are very fitting. Browner will likely end up moving to safety (free or strong... I think he could play either just as Lott did).
